Default 69 Yenko tires? Info

Hello All! I just bought a 69 Yenko Clone.

I was wondering what tire size are folks running on their 69's and what looks good...etc. The tires that came on car are new but blackwalls and not sure I like the sizes... If anyone has pics of what they are running to help me decide what to replace these with would be great! The car has the the Torque Thrust D rims!

Pics would be a great help! I'll post pics when I get a chance!

Later, Michael

Vehicle: 1969 COPO Yenko Camaro
Owner: Cliff Ernst, Nashville, TN
Color: Olympic Gold
Engine: COPO 9561 L72 427" with NOS Doug Thorley headers
Transmission: M21 with dealer-installed Lakewood bellhousing
Differential: 12-bolt Posi-Traction with 4:10 gearing
Interior: Black vinyl with SYC graphics
Wheels: 15x7 Atlas cast mags
Tires: F70x15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT
Dealer options: headers, bellhousing, graphics, tach, wheels, tires
Best ET: 11:94 (by Ed Hedrick, SS&DI 7/69)
Restored by: Musclecar CPRX, Monoca, PA

Some had F70 14" but it appears f70's were it,they would have been bias ply tires by the way.

How many COPO Camaros were built isn't known; Yenko ordered 201, but other dealers could order them as well, and 500 or more were produced. All were basically the same: They had the iron-block and head, solid-lifter L72 427, which Chevy pegged at 425 bhp but which Yenko rated a more-realistic 450; Hurst four-speed manual or dual-gate automatic; heavy-duty 4.10:1 Posi; cowl-induction hood; heavy-duty Z28 suspension with F70xl4 tires; and other go-fast goodies. The package added about $800 to a base coupe, including $490 for the engine.

Chevy delivered the standard COPO Camaros with dog-dish hubcaps and no exterior badging; not even the engine was identified as a 427. Yenko ordered his with 15-inch rally wheels, bigger front roll bar, and 140 mph-speedometer, then dressed them with "sYc" (Yenko Super Car) insignia and striping, and made available mags, gauges, headers, and other items that could push the price past $4,600. As delivered, Yenko Camaros turned effortless mid-13s. Most were fitted with headers and slicks, even for street work, and in this form recorded 11.94-secomd ETs at 114 mph.

I had a friend who bought a Yenko SC back in 1969 after we got out of hi school. For some reason I remember distinctly his Camaro having red line tires, rather than the usual white lettered Godyears. Must have been an option, or dealer change?
Of course he was one of those who didn't keep his Yenko, and very much regrets that decision today!

Understatement of the year?

I could/would retire if I had one of those to sell.

Probably ordered it that way, most of the COPO cars were ordered through the dealer rather than bought off the showroom floor.

If I remember correctly, he ordered it from a dealer in the Midwest, and it was shipped to Lyman Slack Chevrolet in Portland, Or. as a dealer transfer. Can't remember which dealer it came from in the Midwest.

Probably http://www.nickeychicago.net/.
Had a high school friend in Bend with a '69 Nickey 427 Nova that came to Oregon that way.
He was the second owner and bought the car in Portland back about 1973.
That thing was scary fast,it was completely bone stock as delivered to the dealer with a 4:56 12 bolt posi rear,M22 4 speed with a steel bellhousing, headers, dual point dizzy, big Holley double pumper 427 rat 450hp(under rated?).
I was in that car when it pulled the wheels off the ground in 3rd gear.

Here's mine, I'm currently running Cooper Cobra but thinking of switching to Goodyear Polyglass.
I'm still checking myself for what is the best period correct tire for the 69 Yenko Camaro.
