69 396 fuel pump problem
Hey guys new to forum I have a 69 396 long story short changed tank, sending unit and mechanical fuel pump and car still won’t start runs for a second with starting fluid and making a weird sound kind of high pitch squealing I hope it’s not a defective fuel pump again |
Fuel pump pushrod?
|
Made sure it was up all the way guess it could have slipped down used bearing grease |
Will try again tomorrow |
Had to take pump apart to rotate housing inlet and feed to carb hope I didn’t mess up pump |
You might have a bad fuel line hose, they can collapse and or split when they get old and deteriorate ,could be sucking air making the noise.
|
Has the inlet hose at pump been removed and low pressure shop air applied to tank fill tube for priming the fuel line?
Yes, today's recipe kills fuel hose. Pump is fine. |
I ran an electric pump mounted near the tank on my big block '69,after that I never had any vapor lock or fuel delivery problems even again.
|
No didnt prime fuel line gas ate tank away so I changed that will try air tank tomorrow thanks guys |
I put about 2 gallons of fuel in after tank change |
Did you prime the carb through the float vent? Check the accelerator pump to see if it's squirting?
If you disconnect the coil wire and crank the engine for six or seven seconds that should prime the line. |
No didn’t prime carb after rebuild I hope that’s it was so focused on tank and pump oops |
Thanks |
Good luck. keep us posted!
