Default 68 Camaro

I am looking for someone who knows or can rebuilt a M21 transmission on a1968 Camaro. I don't need an unexperienced person.

Well you could go this route,if yours is numbers matching so you want your case kept I'm sure they could rebuild yours rather than using it as a core.
That said any reputable transmission shop in your area should be able to do it for you.

I and a thousand others can do that job
Find a local trans shop that has an old dude
Muncies were gone by 1974 and the Borg Warner T-10 replaced them for GM
It is a fairly easy trans to overhaul
Buy 2 synchros and a selective fit washer and seal kit and take that to the guy

I agree, an old school 4 speed is not complicated. You just need a few tools. Do you have a specific question or are you just looking for someone to do the work? Is the transmission broken or worn out? Those are two very different repairs.

Well, in my research prior to having my M20 restored, I kept coming across this guy’s name: Paul Cangialosi and his website: https://www.5speeds.com/

His company manufactures every gear and part in classic M20/21/22 gear boxes, but they even build a new and stronger case if yours is trashed beyond repair! They can rebuild your M21 to better than new. Just reading his writings and viewing his Youtube videos will leave you substantially better educated on the treasure you own. Possibly there are better transmissions these days but if you want to keep your classic Camaro classic, stay with the hoss that brung you: your M21.

If that's the only problem maybe just a couple new gaskets and seals is all you need.

Cool,
I'd have you reseal it yourself for sure if you have any mechanical skills at all
The output shaft seal, and the bushing or yoke too if needed can be replaced easily
The shift shaft seals and the input slinger (mine leaked from the input shaft) are a bit harder
My slinger nut was on there backwards, and had a big chisel slot from a previous owner removing it
Good luck, have fun

Of all the things that could be wrong with a 4 speeds leaks are the easiest to fix. The leak can be caused by age. Seals get hard with age and they will leak. Driving it is not a problem unless the fluid is leaking out too fast. As long as the fluid does not get too low you will not hurt the transmission. You could lose a half a quart without any risk to the transmission parts itself. Any ideas how many miles are on the transmission? Which end is it leaking from? Tail shaft would be the most common and easiest repair,

Youtube videos are a great way to learn. I watched a few videos and was not a big fan of some of what I saw but I am sure then all would work. This One seamed pretty good but the mechanic did not have the right seal puller. As you can see with a lift this is a 20 minute job. What you do not see is getting the car on the lift and the paper work the mechanic would do.

You do want to make sure the seals did not fail due to too much play in the input shaft and the housing or the drive shaft and the tail shaft. The bushing in the tail shaft is easy to put in and the main input shaft bearing is needs to be done correctly be is not hard.

Back in the 80's when I was a tech resealing a manual transmission would have included the seals for the shift levers and input and output seals would pay about two hours, less under warranty. If I had to replace all the supporting beaings/bushings it would be more like 3-4 hours. I assume you do not have the tools to handle this job you could remove the transmission and carry it into a trusted shop get it resealed then you reinstall it. I think this is common. If you found a shop you could trust you could get them to do a wear check the rest of the transmission to get an idea how much where is one the transmission. I cannot tell you how much this would cost. Prices have gotten insane. A few weeks ago I was quoted around $1000 to install a power steering pump in my G6. I was told it was $500 for the pump and $500 in labor. The AC delco pump was $189.00 and it took me about an hour in labor.

If the car has not been messed with in a long time or has a 50-60K on it you could do clutch, rear main seal and the transmission resealed all that the same time. With all those jobs the primary cost is removing the transmission. It sounds like a lot of work but that is a one day job.
