Default 67 Camaro RS-SS

I found a 67 Camaro today the owners calls an RS-SS. it is an unrestored car. that is in pretty good shape. I decoded the trim tag to be a 1967 V-8 Coupe, Black standard interior with bucket seats and console. Shows to be a 4 speed and Super Sport. exterior code was Plum (M-M). the original engine is missing, but was replaced with a 4 bolt 350. Still has the original m-21, but the console is missing. It has the hidden headlights. the grille, front fenders, and fuel cap have SS, but that is it, none on the interior. the question I have is the car doesn't have disc brakes and has a single trac 10 bolt rear end. Is this correct? also what makes this an RS-SS? Thanks.

In 1967, Camaros came with an SS ( Super Sport ) package that had either a 295 HP 350 or a 325HP, 350 HP or 375 HP 396. The RS ( Rally Sport ) package included the hidden headlights. I had a SS396-350 4 speed Plum '67 Camaro ( kind of a neat color ) that I bought new in '67. I think it cost about $ 2700.00 ant did not have a console either.

From what i understand, the blacked out ehadlights tell you its a RS. I know for sure that they were independent packages and could be ordered separate or together in first gen cars. I'd look it up in a book i have on camaros but i just lent it to a friend who bought an 83 Z28 last weekend.

I am assuming that it has the correct front valance with the parking lights in it, and also the correct tail lamp panel with the back up lights below the rear bumper. If it has all of the wiring for the hide away headlights chances are its definitely a factory rs, and as for the ss my understanding is that was a performance option that meant it had 350 engine, and should have a rare torque rod going from the top of the rear end housing to the bottom of the unibody to prevent wheel hop since they were mono leaf rear suspension. 1967 was still a bit early for the disc brakes. It would have had to been optioned with what they call the jl8 disc brake option which is rare but also junk from my understanding because they were 4 piston caliper which always had problems. If the price is right for the car though you really can't go wrong. I have a 1967 and am surprised how much money and how few of them you see. Hope this helps. Jeff

^ Is that a sales pitch?
And why the Impala info? That wouldn't do him any good anyway.
Oh yeah, and this thread belongs in the "1st Gen" section.
