67-68 4 piston caliper swap to 69 1 piston

Ok new to forum. I need help. I have a 68 camaro. I have 4 piston calipers and have trouble with then sticking as my car sits up. I have read this is a problem with the 4 piston. Here's my question. What do I need to swap to 69 1 piston calipers ? If I buy just the calipers will they bolt right up ? Do I need special hardware ? Different rotors ? Please help I am done with these 4 piston calipers

You will have to change caliper mounting bracket and backing plate, if using backing plate. Hoses also.
Also 11 inch rotors will fit a 14 inch wheel, 12.5 will need 15 inch wheel.
Check at National Parts Depot for more info and look up disc brake conversions.
Welcome, 53, to the Club.

Wait, are you sure there is no problem. Is this the factory corvette setup? or is it an aftermarket setup?

I have repaired a lot of the Corvette 4 piston systems. They work awesome when they are in good repair. Trust me, corvette owners are insanely picky and many Corvettes are track run. If they are dragging they are repairable.

The process to rebuilding a Vet brake system is time consuming but not expensive. The big issues that cause brake drag is rust around the piston and and the soft lines that run too the caliper. Rebuild the calipers and replace the lines and flush the brake sustem and you will be good to go.

If you really want to get rid of the 4 piston system just advertise you want to trade a failing 4 piston system for a basic working one piston one. Assuming no one marks the post as spam (because no one should ever do that) plan on hundreds of email/phone calls. I could see people driving 6-8 hours for that deal. Heck if you can wait a little while you may even find a shop owner that will though in the labor and do the swap for you.

Honestly even if someone offered to buy all brand new parts just to get your old parts you are still getting ripped off 5-$800.

Only if someone put C4 brakes on it. C4 was not build until 16 years later. The factory 68 brakes would have been like C3 brakes but not an exact match. They are so much a like they use the same rebuild kit but I think that some of the hardware is different.

Once the caliper cylinders develop a rust ring or pits (not uncommon on an old car that sits a lot) the caliper needs to be replaced, or re-sleeved. Don't even waste your time doing a DIY rebuild. I recently replaced all 4 of my 69 Vette's calipers with stainless steel calipers. There are a couple few good stainless caliper companies, sold by a number of Corvette supply houses. If you want to know if you have C3 calipers, I can take a pic of one of mine for comparison. What you have now, when working as it should, is better than a single piston setup. What you're talking about doing, is taking a step or two backward.

Do you have any idea if the disk brakes are original? is this a number matching car?

If I under stand it right GM put 2 different disk brakes on the 68. One, is the adapters C3 which is very rare and was a $500+upgrade (that is twice what if cost to get a convertible). From what I read these where almost all track bound Z28s.(J56 option) Two, was the more common HDdisk brake option which was a smaller caliper and was built by a company called Kelsey Hays (J52 option).

Neither option will be a cheap to fix as a C3, there are few shared parts except the normal wear items. But these are very sought after options and rare. In the first gen world that is money. If this is a number matching car you got to fix it right. If not it may be cheaper to convert to C3 brakes or go back to your original plan.

This has been educational for me as I always thought is was just C3 brakes on a Camaro. I understand why someone would recommend get rid of the system if the car is not numbers matching. Every part, even broken ones has value to a restorer.
