Hey all, I just picked up a bb motor casting number 3969854 and on front pad to222clb the guy said it was a 396 web site said 454 but a book I have says 396/402. Can anyone tell me 4 sure thanks and heads are 353049 on both but 1 says gm5t and 1 says gm7t does this mean 2 different heads? ??? Thanks

 

Definitely not a 396 because of the 3 digit CLB. Motors 1969 and earlier had a 2 digit code. CLB is a 1971 or 72 Chevelle, Camaro, or Monte Carlo 402.

 

Great news thanks the guy said it was a 71 396 but I new they stopped makeing them in 69 so I thought it had to be a 402 was just hopeing it wasn't a 454 tall deck for no reason. He said it was in a bread van/truck
