350 engine question
 

I'm new to the forum and also a week away from the completion of a two year projet. The engine builder just sent me the specs. Can someone please give me an opinion on what type of horsepower this engine will generate and your best estimate of 1/4 mile time. I am very new to the hot rod thing. Please keep in mind the car was build to cruise. It is not a race car.

What heads are you using and how big are the runners?

what size primary on the header?

street tires? slick?

crank hp or wheel hp?

Thank you both for responding. Please bare with me as I said I'm very new to this and don't know much at all. This is my first hot rod.
They are aluminum Summit heads. I'm sorry I don't know what runners are.
I believe the headers are 2 1/4" if that's what you're asking
Rear 18x9
Front 17x8
street tires

no sweat, lets start from the beginning.

He's asking if there was any machine work done on the heads. Any port work ie port and polish, cnc work or are they a box stock set of heads?

Would you be able to find the listing for the cylinder heads on summits website? That would help us get a little better idea of power.

2 1/4 primary would be MASSIVE, especially for that motor, my 408ci motor doesn't even use a primary that big. Most likely they're in the 1 3/4 range, do you know where the headers came from? A link would help us there as well.

If that doesn't make sense, ask away, I'll be happy to help you understand anything, if I can

unfortunately I made the mistake of paying in full for this entire project 2 years ago. Since then I have not been asked for any more money but I also never seen or ask for any receipt. I believe the heads are not modified. Just Aluminum Summit "Racing" heads. As far as the headers I'm sure you're correct. They must be 1 3/4

Anyways, a 355 with 10:1 compression and reasonable headers and collectors would probably be in the 360hp range, about 290-300 to the tires.

I'd bet with some practice, you'd be in the mid 13s at the track

Well its not the 600 HP Corvette I use to have but the way this 67 is coming out I'm sure I'll be quite happy. Thank you so much for the information.

remember, power is in the heads, a good set of heads with a properly matched cam/intake will make TONS more power, especially with a 10+ compression ratio.

But it should sound choppy knowing what has been stated about the cam and should be spunky

You say TH350 Transmission, is it modified? The TH350 in stock trim or with a shift kit is rated for 350 horsepower and if your motor goes much over you maybe investing in a new one fairly quickly. 2800 Stahl converter means your expecting to keep the motor pretty well wound up. I am not sure of the drivability you will have in the end. If its for the track or racing you might want to go up to a TH400 since the 400 is for 400 horsepower motors.. Just a suggestion if its an option...
