1969 Camaro SS (automatic on column - rare?)
Hey guys... I am new here, but not new to 69 Camaros. My dad has owned several and actually has a 1969 he just sold waiting to be picked up. He has owned it for 6 years and I always thought it would someday be my car, but now its leaving.
Oh well, I still have my 72 Caprice wagon I am restoring.
Well, anyway while at a local cruise on Saturday I spotted this what appears to be completely original (except the wheels maybe) 69 Camaro SS. I was suprised to see it was auto on the column... I dont think I have seen an SS with the column shift before. I am wondering if this is pretty rare?
This is an awesome car and the interior even appears to be original and it has the "old car" smell, so I dont think its been redone before. It also has the nicer interior... here are some pics. BTW, the paint even looked to be original!!

paint looks way to nice to be 40 plus yr old laquer? but interior looks real old (original) im guessing it was a plain jane 307 column shift car that had an exterior resto with rs/ss options added at that point as it would have had the ss hood with louvers and not a cowl hood if original.?
maybee the owner had 2 cars and the body on this one was nicer than the rs/ss and he swapped parts?

I have a '69 RS 350 with the Automatic Column Shift (All original - early in the '69 MY build). The door panels are the "Deluxe" Interior. I have the same panels, but with Hounds Tooth seats.
You could buy an SS with any configuration; automatic with or without console shift, or with a manual trans. There's no database that I know of that shows how many of which were made, so it's impossible to say just how rare it is. And there would be even less column shifts now due to some getting converted to a console shifter because it's "cooler".
