1968 camaro resto question
So I have a lead on a 68 camaro. It's so busted that honestly I'd basically be buying the frame for around $800. Since the original motor, tranny..... And everything else is gone, I figured that using after market parts won't be as taboo.
Now I'm used to working on newer cars but I recently sold my WS6 and want to get into some true American Muscle.
I was wondering if I could buy a 1969 unibody and make a 1969 rs ss clone even utilizing the 1968 camaro frame?
Another question is I what 454s can work with these years? I know out of trucks and rvs they are actually quite reasonable. But a lq9 motor with a t56 has also crossed my mind.

First gen subframes are all the same dimensionally. There are some different holes but you can make it work. A big block will fit with little problems since you could get a factory big block car. They make 67-68 reproduction bodies. Your main problem will be with registration and titling the car.
And why would you be wanting to pay $800 for a subframe?
Here's a bare subframe on flebay for $300, not too bad but not "perfect": Bare Subframe
Here's a rolling subframe for $500: Equipped Subframe
I don't know where you're at, so obviously location is key.
Or you can buy a brand new factory style one for $1,100.
Or a decked out Heidt's frame for $4,200.
But, I don't get why you're looking at buying a subframe if the rest of the body is scrap? Are you looking to do a rebody and getting this scrap car for the title to do a shady VIN transfer?

If he is using the body to repair an existing car it is not shady. That is exactly what the body was made for. What else could you use the body for?? Just contact your DMV or a State Police officer to direct you to the required procedure to transfer you ID plates to the replacement body.
$800 for a car that can be re-bodied is reasonable. The are a lot of little wigits on the car you will be to build the replacement body.

How that goes down depends on the State you're living in. But generally, building a car from a new aftermarket body, such as Dynacorn, is considered a "kit car" or "custom vehicle". The state would then issue you a new title, not a transferred VIN tag/title from an old car of the same make. If the new car uses an old frame, you have to show ownership (title) of that for proof that nothing is stolen. "Shady" would be building a car and swapping the VIN tag from one car to the other on the sly, which is what I was asking about the OP's intent. Some people don't know the extent of the law, and you don't want to find out the hard way by getting a car confiscated.
