1967 camaro 327 engine vin pad problem

well once again my grandfather and I are looking at getting another first gen to flip. we looked at a very clean 67 with a 327 210hp in it and made an offer on it but didnt think the car was for sale well the guy called back and took it. we told him we wanted to verify if the car was #s matching so my grandpa went and looked at it again while i was at work. i talked to him last night about and here is where the problem started. the motor is a 67 and older block because it still has the vent tube out the back, but on the front pad where its stamped with the 2 letter code and the 6 digits that match the vin there is only the letters. no vin stamp. the letters are correct for a 210hp and powerglide but the lack of vin digits worries me. i thought all motors that were intalled in a car in 67 had the vin number stamped. if the motor had been decked then there should be nothing there too? any thoughts?

Sometimes the partial VIN was stamped on the vertical pad by the oil filter boss. Take a look see there.

ok didnt know they stamped it there too

I know that was an alternate spot for 69 blocks, it's worth a look on yours.
The partial VIN was stamped on GM blocks starting in 1960.
There is also some talk that says for 67 Camaros, the partial VIN may have only been stamped on SS and Z/28 blocks.
Starting in 1968, the VIN on all blocks was a federal requirement. So....not having one on that 67 may be right.

How the heck are you finding deals like that?
There aren't any "flippable" deals on cars of any importance or interest like that near me.
