on star
#2
I just bought a 2011 SS less than a month ago. Love it by the way
If you used other gps navigation systems before, you will not like the turn by turn feature of on star. I use to have a Garmin Nuvi and now use Google maps on my Droid. There is no comparison. I like being able to see the map on the device. On star only gives you turn by turn directions.
Side note I will keep the service because of the security features it provides:
-With SS model engine slow down
-Stolen vehicle assistance(Like having low jack)
and crash response.
I am also waiting for the on star Android app that will allow you to control your car from your phone. Open or close your car doors. Remote engine start.... The future is here

Forget it, just get an iPhone with ProClip and try the MapQuest app (with voice turn by turn guidance!) , Waze and Trapster , and you will be all set!

I've actually used the Onstar on several occasions and I do not like to use it. I asked the operator to guide me avoiding toll roads, she didn't. Another issue is download time: it takes at least a minute to process the route regardless of the distance to the destination. The final peeve is if the car is downloading the directions and you get a phone call via bluetooth, it interrupts downloading and you have to recall the operator and wait ANOTHER minute to reload directions. I know a minute is a pesky thing to complain about, but when you are already on the road it feels like forever and the directions may come too late.

I'm not familiar with all the stuff the new camaro has to offer with On Star but I had it in an Impala a few years ago. I would gladly pay for the service again. They were able to unlock the car when the kids locked the keys in and also send emergency help when my wife had a situation with her sugar levels and my young daughter pressed the button. IMO, it was well worth the money. Also, I was in Iraq and if I called home and no one was there, all I had to do was call the on star system and use it as a phone to talk. I think at that time, I paid something like $189 for a years subscription. Not sure what it cost today.

That is exactly what I say all the time. Or, just let me drive and give me the directions ONCE, not twice or more, and nothing to fear. I will get you there....
