ok a while back when i first bought the car, usually when i drove it the fans didnt turn on until it was like half way through the temp gauge, and when i turned on the air conditioning the temp went down... i took the camaro to the garage and the fixed it so that the fans turn on when i start the car, usually the temp stays below one-quarter temp but when it gets to exactly one-quarter the "service engine soon" light comes on... and on top of that, when i turn on the air conditioning the temp gos way past one-quarter and the car starts to run ho to the point of making the coolant leak out the reservoir... so any help is appreciated, i think it might be something electrical 1994 z28

Sounds to me that the fans were working properly to begin with. They come on around 220 or 230, or when you turn the a/c on they come on. I would have someone scan it for codes to see what it is telling you. Odds are it is linked to whatever they just did to your car...

yeah dude, they obviously ****ed something up when they did the electrical work to make it stay on all the time. it was working correctly before that, my old 94 Z28 would always stay around the middle of the temp guage, usually just a tad bit higher. that is the way they are designed to run, I''ve learned to not mess with things like the cooling fans, especially not splicing things together to get them to stay on.

well apparently, they took out the cooling fan #3 relay and connected a wired from the cooling fan #2 relay to a ground... what i do not uderstand is why the hell when i turn on the air condition it gets hot if both fans are working...

yeah that seems pretty understandable, the thing is that the temp used to go down when i turned down the a/c, i drove it a few days ago with the a/c on and the temp got to half way and then i noticed the coolant dripping out of the reservoir, i thought that maybe the water pump might be broken but it works fine...

the reason your temp used to go down when you turned the AC on is becuase the fans are set to come on if the AC is turned on. So, lets say your cruising at 50mph, there is no need for the fans to be on since there is plenty of air cooling the radiator, so the PCM will leave the fans off, but while cruising at that same 50mph, if you were to turn on the AC, the PCM is programmed to turn the fans on whenever the AC is turned on, no matter what, so since the fans are now turned on, of course your temp guage is going to go down. But now that they are on all the time, your temp is going to be pretty low with the AC off, maybe around the 1/4 mark on the temp guage. so now when u turn on the AC, the temp is going to of course go up, since the fans were already on to begin with and you just put an extra load on the engine. The coolant should not start to leak out of the reservoir until it gets into the red zone. If it is only at half and leaking out, there is something wrong. Do you have the right radiator cap? maybe the radiator cap you have is not keeping the system pressurized, therefore making it boil over at a lower temp. do you have the right mix of water and coolant(50/50)? maybe there is mostly water in the cooling system, which would also make it boil over sooner since water has a lower boiling point than coolant. Maybe its a combination of the two.
