OK guys this dude next door owns a viper and I have a 3.8 v6 so gutting the cat is the only way for a v6 to beat hhim right because i heard that if you dont gut the cat there is no way but if you do you will be putting down 500rwhp is that right?

SERIOUSLY though, I picked my car up from the AC place and all of a sudden I have zero power whatsoever. I don''t get power flooring it and I can''t get past 4k rpms. You hear a rattling after it is started up which my friend said was the cat (further confirming my suspicions). Then of course I check the engine light and it says catalytic converter failure or something like that.

So what all would be involved in gutting it, or more preferably, putting in a straight pipe? I have heard there are issues with O2 sensors when you gut the cat so it is not as easy as cut off and crowbar.

it is just as easy as openning it up and ramming it with a rod of some sort.

your 02 sensor will throw a code to your ECU and will cause your SES lite to come on. You can get a cheep one on line for $100 bucks or so. A pluged CAT will kill your performance along with being very dangerous. It can get really hot(cherry red) and cause a fire. HAve seen it happen and its not cool.

Chappie99 is correct, except you wont get a o2 code if you dont have sensors after the cat.

A friend of mine was telling me that gutting it will kill your gas mileage and performance because of the O2 sensor issue.

Also is there a way to accomplish this without the SES light to come on? I am not very mechanically inclined and the light lets me know whenever theres something wrong :/

the rear 02 sensors do not affect the PCM, they simply check the cat''s performance. the SES light wont hurt anything, but u can buy 02 simulators online that will eliminate it

Thanks, so is the removal easy? I looked a bit and it looks like I might have to cut it.

Another thing, if I cut it off would it just be easier to put a peice of pipe in it''s place?
