Default Underhood insulation mat?

hey folks, my car is missing the underhood insulation, do you know where I can get one that will fit nicely? I don't want my hood paint to suffer from not having it installed. Thanks for your help!

can't help without knowing year, but anyway.....unless you are running a turbo you really have no worries about the paint being affected. the main reason it is there is for sound deadening

Does it affect it at all if you take it off. Heat or anything or is it just dead weight?

Like what 1969 SS said it does help noise surpression. As for it being "dead weight?" It barely weighs anything. Try your local Chevy dealer for a replacement, they should have it.If not then you can order it from there.

You dont even have to go to the dealer to get it, most part houses carry em.

There is still the valid question of whether or not it will harm the paint if you take it off.

I have been wondering about this as well, but for a different reason; I am debating going to an open element aircleaner lid to increase airflow, but I would have to remove at least part of the pad in order to see any increase in airflow.

I would assume that as long as you don't spend lots of time sitting in one spot with no airflow with the engine running, it would not get hot enough to harm the paint, right?

it has already been answered if you read the previous posts

again, there is NO PROBLEM with running without the insulation unless you are running a turbo or maybe a supercharger. it is mainly there for sound deadener

Sorry I didn't mention my car is a '96 Z. Here under the hot Florida sun the paint sure has a hard time... just didn't want to add more heat from underneath in the hood area. I don't think the mat is heavy, I was thinking of one of those aluminized ones like thermo-tec.

Leave the car in the sun and see how hot the paint gets. Engine heat will not hurt anything, as the insulation is more for noise surpression.
