I agree with craby I wouldn't trade my electric impact for anything. The air... well Leta just say hoses and cords can really be annoying.

Sorry, nothing beats air powered tools. I have a 2 stage compressor which I paid around $600. for. I plumbed my garage in PVC and have 3 outlets for hoses. For small fasteners, a battery powered impact is fine. If you are getting into lrger fasteners, do chasis work or need an air hammer, obviously pneumatic is the way to go. The key to building a good tool arsenal is buying quality tools. As a professional, you might need to replace a 1/2" Ingersol Rand impact once. As a hobbyist, probably never. My philosiphy is always spend a little more now for a quality tool and youll be saving in the long run.

NEW INGERSOLL RAND 231G 1/2" TWIN HAMMER PNEUMATIC AIR IMPACT WRENCH TOOL SALE | eBay <--- does this seem like a decent impact for me? I wont need one all the time but I feel that it would be very handy to have for when I am doing a bigger job. I will also need to buy a compressor. what is a good tank size (gallons).

I also found on ebay, a Used Kawasaki compressor. It is 5 gallons, max psi is 125. and the cfm at 90psi is 4.7. the Ingersoll rand 231g needs 5cfm at 90 psi. But i think it will be fine. it just means i might have to wait a few seconds for the compressor to catch back up. The price on this compressor is really good, I will see what happens with it. I already have the air hose and quick disconnects. I will also need the sockets for it.

I am all about air tools. IMO The electric tools just do not have the torque yet to hang with the big boys. Twin hammer IR impact is about the best I have run into for impacts. Once you start using them your going to want to upgrade those compressors. The great thing about tools is they have a nice resale and upgrading is a good way to go.

BTW: Some newb requested a Garage section a couple of years ago. It is for tools and garage talk. I don't think my mod power would allow me to move this. Craby?

I think the ingersoll rand 231g looks like a good first impact. its 500 ft/lbs seems more than enough. and it has GREAT reviews.
