love it the gold series I had 82 ta with 305 was hard top ,very nice clean ,looks like he may have painted a few thing to keep them from rusting ,one thing I got going to is no rust ,but the low miles are gone .though my new engine an trans have like 2000 on them ,now to replace things like front shocks pan hard bar frame conectors ,an rearend one thing at a time an drive it ,one thing is for sure that car has not been driven enough, its a buyers dream to find a car like that though, only problem is a car that sits does not get enjoyed enough ,theres still a ton of 81 cars out there ,no pun intened ,but drive it 3k to 5k is what I average so in 20 years would be like 75.000 is till low miles,my motto is drive it ,I have kept mine out of the rain the last 2 years but

I agree that cars are meant to be driven, but at this point I guess his philosophy is why start now. If he decides to sell there are probably not too many 81's out there with that kind of mileage and it would no doubt boost it's value. The car has never had an ounce of paint put on it to the best of my understanding. It was undercoated from the factory so that's probably what u are seeing. At least I think it was from the factory but definitely undercoated.
Edit. Just talking to him and it was dealer applied - only mistake he made with it according to him
