Default 1995 Z28 transmission swap to th400

I have a few questions and I hope someone can help.....I am swapping out the 4l60e to a th400 and am trying to find out what all exactly is going to have to be done. For instance am I going to need a driveshaft made and will I need to get a new bellhousing or will the one off of the 4l60e work? Also does anyone have a shifter for the th400 with reverse manual valve body? I'm on a slight bit of a budget and really don't want to spend $250+ on a brand new shifter.... Thank you in advance

not all th400 are the same. going to need to do some measuring. i believe the mount is different, if its for a two piece rear seal you may need a different converter. why changing to a 400?

I actually have had the 400 for a while. A friend of mine had built it with a lot of upgrades including a trans brake. The 4l60e that is in it went out, will not go out of 2nd gear. So I figure since I've got to take it out anyway why not change it lol. I also bought a 2200 convertor for the th400

Bell housing is the same between the two and neither is removable. You'll need a new cross member for the TH400 with a provision for a torque arm mount since the tail shaft on the TH400 won't have the mount. Drive shaft will need lengthened and you'll need someone to tune the computer since it controlled the 4L60E as I'm sure it'll throw some lights. You also may need to convert from a mechanical speedo to an electronic since I'm sure the TH400 has a mechanical.

Personally, I'd find another 4L60E and put that back in. The TH400 is nice, if you're drag racing or building era correct car. But you'll miss having OD and a lock up converter if the car ever sees distance trips over 40 mph.

Is the 400 torque converter the same bolt pattern as the as the 4l60e? What I am saying is will the flex plate on the LT1 work with the Th400 converter.

I am not seeing this as saving much money.

You will need:
a custom drive shaft
a custom cross member
a Torque arm relocator UMI Performance 2228-R, UMI Performance Torque Arm Relocation Kits | UMI Performance
An aftermarket shifter with cable kit.
Speedo conversion kit.

I am counting 5-600 dollars. You could find a used with a warranty 4l60e for $400 or sell your Th400 and add the $600 and get a rebuilt 4l60e

I just went and picked up a used 4l60e to put in so I can drive it for now. The one in the car will go to get rebuilt in a couple months so that I can put power to it. I've always heard bad things about the 4l60e but since it's gonna be so much trouble to change it out I'm just gonna wait and use the th400 when I finally build my car for track only...... Which who knows when that will be lol. Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it!
