Default 95 z28 383 stroker

i got a 95 z28 6 speed lt1 got around 230xxx miles and i blew a head gasket and going to do a rebuild but im thinking of just making it a 383 stroker but idk where to start! im new to working on cars im practically done with changing the head gaskets just got the heads to remove. what all do i need to do to make this beast a 383? is it worth it with how many miles i have on the engine and tranny? and how much is it going to cost i dont wanna go super cheap and have crap break but i dont have a crap ton of money either. anything helps

If you are gong to go the 383 route, the engine will need a complete rebuild, so mileage is of no concern as long as the block is sound. The Camaro LT1 was built on a 2 bolt main bearing block, except in very few cases where GM ran out of 2 bolt blocks and substituted a 4 bolt as used in Corvettes so 500 hp would be a safe limit. That being said, you will need a stroker crank, new pistons and possibly new connecting rods. Unless you buy a complete rotating assembly, the crankshaft will need to be rebalanced. The block will need to be rebored, ported heads, new valves, and new camshaft to properly feed the larger engine, all other stuff needed in a normal rebuild, larger radiator to keep the bigger engine cool, and if you are going to keep the fuel injection, you will need bigger injectors, and finally the PCM will need to be tuned for the new engine. This won't come cheap, and since you admit you have little experience, you may come out better buying a crate engine.

to have a shop do your block to a 383 short block right it will cost in the 3-3.5k range. heads and cam from elliotts 2300. are you sure this engine is toast?

its not so easy to get 700 from a lt1 or ls1 for that matter. if you know of a reputable shop it would be best to pick up a short block and have your heads done. had mine done here http://elliottsportworks.com got the le2 heads with the 573/568 cam. still looking at 5-6k

Not looking for 700 yet I'd be happy with 350-450 hp
