Torque specs for lug nuts
#3
I normally use a breaker bar, and go by the ehhhhhhhh method!
Once you've installed and removed wheels enough times, you know what is tight and what is too tight without using a torque wrench.

Just don't "spot torque" the lug nuts. spot torquing is torquing the nuts so tight you see spots.
When I was a tech for GM we would set the steel wheels at 75 ft lbs and the aluminum ones at 85 ft lbs

93 factory book calls for 100 ft lbs. i do mine at 90 and the tire shop i got the wheels from recomended 90. use the star pattern when tightening and use multiple passes snug- 30- 60- 90. last thing you want is an uneven torque job. that can mess up the rotor.

This page says 100ft-lbs http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/torquespecs.htm
but i find that some of the specs differ from book to book i think my chilton says 90ft-lbs

Ancient thread I know, but here's the definitive answer from GM eSI, since I was searching for the same information:
"Tighten the nuts in a cross sequence to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).
Tighten the wheel nut caps to 6 N·m (53 lb in)."

I have not put a tire on a car without a torque wrench since I was 17. 100 Ft lbs unless it one of those large franged 80's sytle aluminum mag wheels, then I do 80 ft lbs.
GM says most rotor warpage is caused but uneven torque on wheel. I have never warped a set of rotors on one of my cars. My wife tends to ride the brake, even tho her wheels are on right she warps them in about 2 years. So GM is full of it
