Serpentine Belt Changed...now shakes
1995 Camaro - Z28 5.7 - 383 stroker 101,000 overhaul at 80,000
Need help....
Serpentine belt was squeeking like crazy. Finally got around to replacing and shortly later my car now shakes slightly. It's definitely noticeable at idle and even more so in 1st gear. Seems too coincidental since I just change my belt. Wondering if the motor mounts were lossened by jacking the car up from the side?? Squeeking is gone but now I'm worried about the shaking. I thought replacing the belt was simple like for like change...

Sounds like a coincident to me. If it is related to the belt change it is more likely and issues with the a rip in the air intake or something not put back right.
Shy of lifting the car up by the engine you would not hurt the mounts. Most of the time when customers think they have a motor mount issue it is a engine not running right issues. Lt1's mounts will sage over time but if they where replaced when the engine was installed it is very unlikely the cause. Even with a completely broken motor mount you would barely notice it if the engine was running right. I have told many customers about broken motor mounts found in a safety inspection and the customer had no idea. I tend to find them when testing the park brake.

That was one of the happiest customers I ever had, he was told by the oil change shop he had major engine damage and all he needed was a $29 belt.
How bad is the shake? Low RPM shakes that go ways at higher RPM tend to be vacuum leaks or injector issues. A small vacuum leaks can cause issue at low RPMs and be almost un noticeable at higher RPMS. Electrical issues tend to get worse with more RPMs But those are basic guide line not hard rules.
