Default Lt1 timing chain cover problem?

I brought my 95 camaro to a repair shop because i work to often to get it done my self. The problem was i had an oil leak, thought it was the crank shaft seal but ended up being the timing chain cover. The timing chain cover on the engine apparentley was from a different year, there was a sensor missing from the lower left side if the cover, and was patched in order for oil not to leak. The patch gave out and it needs a new cover but im not sure which cover it needs. The shop bought one but it didnt fit. And there not sure which one it needs. it doesnt help the lt1 isnt the original engine. im going to go in tomorrow and date it with thee cast number, but does anyone have and other ideas? besides find a new mechanic.

I know that 95-97 had vented optis and ect..

93 and 94 had the old style opti, and the timing chain cover is different. 95 started the new (vented) opti and the updated cover. In 96 they added a separate crank sensor (the hole yours has), other than that, the covers are the same. You can use a 96 and up cover, if you plug the sensor hole well. http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ing_modifying/

Non F-body LT1's got the new style vented opti in 94, but F-bodies didn't get it till 95.

Y-bodies got them the same time as the F-bodies ('95). B-and D-bodies got 'em in '94, for whatever reason.

Yeah, that's true too. We could use a friggin chart on LT1 differences! I think the "reason" was for GM to continue the tradition of making things confusing.
But you'd think the Vette and Camaro would have gotten the "good stuff" first. Or at least the Vette, as is usually the case.

Yeah a guy and I discussed that at work the other day. I'm thinking maybe they did to the B- and D- bodies first so if anything went wrong, they could fix it and not have their sports car groups getting mad........or maybe just to keep things confusing. Haha
