Default How do I add power efficiently

I just got a 94 Z28 and I'm looking to add power but without droping gas mileage. I also want to add an exhaust. But I want an exhaust that flows a lot but isn't too loud. Does it exist? Can anyone help me?

Default RE: How do I add power efficiently

A free flowing exhaust will help both power and mileage, as will a cold air intake. The biggest restrictions in the exhaust are the Y pipe with all its corrugations and where the exhaust pipe routes over the rear axle. Better built ones are available by various vendors. As for noise, it is manly determined by the mufflers you use, and they come in all different sound levels. The amount of noise has little to do with the amount of power. Just get a catalog and read up on them & make a choice. If you plan to keep the car a long time, get a stainless steel system. A good set of headers will also help, but IMO they are too much of a hassle for daily use. (Noise, leaks, burnt wires, etc..)
