A 396 LT1 sounds really interesting... what would the downfalls be of going that big with the cubic inches? I'm sure that would cost a pretty penny too...

Downfalls is cost. Crank selection is limited as well. You're better off building a 383, it's cheaper than building a 396 with only a few less ponies and will still give you the torque you are looking for.

But EVERYBODY has a 383... lol. But wanting to be different usually does end up being costly. Rough scetch of my build plan for the motor: Pacetter mid give headers, GMMG or Borla cat back, LE ported intake 1LE heads, LT4 Hot Cam, MSD Opti, wires, coil, metal intake elbow and whichever CAI I can find for cheap. Tune. That aught to get me close if not enough power... plus I'm getting 3.42's soon so those should help the kick a bit right?

Don't go with the LT4 cam. Have Llyod spec you a cam for his heads, you will be much happier. Another option to the 383 is a 355. That would allow you to use many of the stock parts, with the exception of the pistons. If you can put long tube headers on it do so, they will help more in the power department.

unless your local emission laws dont allow it, use long tube headers. shorties dont do much for the lt1. have lloyd do your intake as well.

I like the idea of the 355 better. LE can is the thing to get too Huh? N Yea craby I was planning on that. I was thinking of getting the Edlebrock intake, or DIY porting, but for only $200 that seems like the best investment. And I was planning on using the mid gives for price and ground clearance reasons. Roads are pretty bad around here.

if you have the bucks for a set of kooks they have stock ground clearance. its the crossover pipe that makes the difference. some crossovers require a different tunnel brace.

I bought the long tube version for my tunnel mount torque arm too thinking the same thing. I have like 2" of ground clearance

Thanks for the pics craby. Long tubes it is then. Most I'm finding dont have hook ups for The EGR and AIR systems. It also seems common to remove these. No big whoop on the air pump... advantages/ disadvantages to removing the EGRi
