fuel pump access panel
ok I have determined that the fuel pump went out in my 96 z28
I'm wanting to cut an access panel instead of dropping the tank.
My question is can anyone tell me whats the measurements are to cut the panel I wanted youtube videos and they never gave an exact measurement.

Try to avoid square corners; round them off like the one in the last post (for 1999 car) of Craby's link. That way it will be less likely for the metal to "rip" there while the car is in motion. Note that this photo is of a 99 and the hole will be different for 93-98.

Heres mine: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/393600...photo-gallery/.
As u can see the drivers side front corner is tight where u have to connect the plumbing. Im as close to the edge as possible w/o cutting into the bent metal. But i used pull nuts and a thick gasket so access is quick and it seals tight - no gas smell. Some guys cut into the metal bends and i dont know how they get it to seal.
I used someone elses dimensions at first but as u can see i cut back the metal to as close to the drivers side front as possible for connecting the hoses - its still very difficult and i dont have a fix for that w/o cutting into the metal bends. But to cut the metal i tried a reciprocating saw that didnt last one inch. So i bought the largest metal hand shears at Hobo Fake and drilled large holes in the corners to get it to start. Dont like the idea of and abrasive cutter making sparks on top of the gas tank.
Good luck.

I used a cut-off wheel, it goes zip-zip fast and straight. Didn't like the idea of throwing down sparks either, so I lowered the tank a little and put a wet towel on top of the tank. Depending on how tight the tank is up against the body, you may or may not need to lower it.
EDIT: I wet the towel with water, not gasoline. Just thought I'd clarify that. lol
