Whats the difference between LT1 and LS1.

RE: Whats the difference between LT1 and LS1.
oooh so much. Short rundown, the LT1 is based off of the origional Chevy small block, where as the LS1 is a completely different block. The LT1 uses an optispark distributer, the LS1 does not. The LS1's exhuast is arranged more like a big block chevy, with each exhuast port separate. Another important thing to note is the LS1 has an aluminum block, as apposed to the LT1's iron block.

alright...we'll go with some pictures...
Here is an LS1, you can clearly see the high rise intake manifold(the black piece on the top of the motor), and the separated exhuast ports.

Here is an LT1, you can see the intake manifold is not nearly as high, and the exhuast configuration has 2 ports on each end, and 2 together in the middle.

This exhaust configuration is common to all small block chevys. The LT series(LT1 and LT4, the LT4 was used in the Grand Sport Corvette) were used up until 1997, when chevrolets performance cars went to the LS series(LS1 and LS6 a few years later). The LS1 has 1.7 rockers(producing more valve lift), where the LT1 has 1.5 rockers. I really don't think I can break it down much more until you start asking for specifics.

So which one is better, cheaper, and wanted more. I don't really want a car that's has all these parts to go fast I am good with the car speed, so if one is just better because of it goes faster and it's more expensive then I really don't want it. But, if it is worth getting because it's good for the car not for speed and then I'll probably get it if the price isn't that much more then the other.

better? It's subject to opinion, technically the LS1 has more horsepower, therefore to some, it's better. Cheaper is going to the the LT1, because it's not as new. Wanted more, that is also buyer preference. If you want a car that doesn't go fast, it just looks good, you might as well go with a v6, it'll get better gas miledge, and it doesn't have parts to "go faster," and it'll be less expensive. As far as being good for the car, theoretically, if you want to go with the v8, the LS1 is technically more reliable due to the fact the opispark distributer will eventually go bad.

not a problem, another thing you may want to consider is which body style you like better(I'm assuming you are purchasing a camaro). The LS1 body style has the buldgy headlights and snorkle shaped front grill, the LT1 camaro has recessed headlights and is crazy aerodynamic shaped.

ok, you have this(1998 with an LS1)

compared to this(1995 with an LT1)

I personally prefer the look of the '93-'97 because it's a much more sleek looking car, but it's all up to you. The only differnce in appearance is the front of the car, the back is the same.
