Question How do I remove exhaust stain?

I wasn't sure where to post this item.
I have a '97 30th SS with dual exhaust tips on the left. I have a black exhaust stain on the bumper just above the tips that I can't remove. I have tried Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover that works great for bugs but doesn't work here. Anybody out there know anything that might remove this but not damage the paint?

Thanks for looking

elbow grease. might try joy or dawn,,,, soap with water. you will need to wax it after or it will leave a dull spot where the paint is left unprotected. im thinkin it may be that the exhaust was rich and that would mean some fuel was mixed in with it. that might have let it soak into the paint or plastic if thats the case removing will require you to remove layers of paint.

Use a liquid based rubbing compound. Turtle Wax has a couple different "grits", but I usually prefer the green bottle (removes medium to heavy oxidation). If that stuff doesn't take the stain out, the paint is already damaged. The rubbing compound will still leave a nice shine on the paint.

Thanks boys. Paint removal I would like to avoid.
Camaro69,the Turtle Wax, is that something different than the bug remover?
I'm in Ontario, Canada and I don't think I've seen anything like that on the shelves.

It's an actual rubbing compound, but it's more liquid form like a wax. It's nothing like the paste rubbing compound that feels like grits of sand in sludge.
This is the stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-T41.../dp/B000NMDFNY
