Default Need Serious Help part 2.... The mechanic called...

Well the initial guestimation of what was wrong... was wrong... its far worse... It blew a piston.... he pulled the number 6 plug and there was metal pieces all up in there... he said he could get a stock replacement LT1 for 1400 then theres all the wonderful labor fees. Now im not made of gold and i dont have a money tree... in fact that army doesnt pay all that well and with christmas coming up my wallet is tight... What are my best options here? Can i get a crate motor for less? i dont want to go to a junk yard and get a motor because well i have trust issues with such parts lol. Or can i get my hands on a stock replacement LT1 for less than 1400? What should I do? All advice is welcome.

saw that coming...no way a head gasket causes that much drama

as far as solutions...search around for used LT1's...i'd say you can get a fully running one for under a grand...of course then someone has to throw it in there. i can help ya look if you'd like...just need to know how far you're willing to travel

you could pull it and rebuild...but that's going to cost money too...at this point, any solution is going to cost a decent amount of money

Yeah, I figured it was going to be expensive.... Id love to just have it towed back here and build an LT4 or something myself but i dont have the tools or the know how but id be able to do it over time. basically right now all i can do is look for one thats ready to be dropped in... one thats already out of the vehicle... and pray it still works... or get the one the mechanic suggested because they all seem to be listed right around the 1400 and up price range.. id have no problem affording that in a couple paychecks.. its just labor that will kill me and ive got bills to pay so that doesnt help.

that's not an LT1...it would be you'd have to do some work to make it work right.

i will do some looking around and see what i can find

ok because the mechanic said he would prefer to find an engine he can just drop in so they dont have to mess with the heads they just find a direct drop in and if i find one from a junk yard its going to be cheaper obviously. so if i can find one thats pulled out of a vehicle life would be sooo much easier.
