Carbed LT1?

Carbed LT1?
Basically it's like this I'm about to become the owner of my third camaro, this one is a 89 RS that had a 305 that blew up. anyways the local junkyard has an LT1 with lik 115k miles on it. it's fuel injected but has no computer.... I dont want to go thru the hassle of wiring up a computer anyways so i was wondering if it's just as good to go carbed? im almost positive edelbrock makes an intake manifold to setup for a carb on the LT1. will i still reap the same horsepower or? They want 450 for the motor.... i thought that was decent considering the last one i looked at was priced at 800 bucks. I'll probably have to get the 4L60E tranny instead of the 700R4 that is in there already right? I was under the impression that the 700R4 and 4L60E were basically the same just the 4l60 was electronically controlled. So will the LT1 bolt up to the 700r4 or is that a negative on that one?

Yep, an LT1 will bolt up to a 700r4 as well.
I am fuzzy on details, but you can carb an LT1. It should make the same power, as the engine build has not changed, but obviously a carb will change where and when that power kicks in. Minor nuisance.
I'd personally weigh the cost of a carb, intake, et al, versus the cost of a painless wiring harness, computer, and a fuel pump to do the job. If cost is an issue...

If the junkyard has the engine where is the car? If you can find the car get the computer and tranny out of it. it will be a little more economical with the fuel injection. If you already have a 700r go carb you probably will come out cheaper.

if you use the 700r-4 you will have to get a lockup solenoid conversion kit. they retail for about 80 bucks. it changes the lockup solenoid from computer to pressure switch controlled. Sick
