both banks running lean
its been a rough few weeks...lol...ok here we go 97 z28. three weeks ago I had the oil pump drive gear break apart on me. I replaced the oil pump, shaft, and gear the car was running great for three weeks. a few minutes after getting gas the cel comes on I assume they didn't put the gas cap on correctly when I get home I check the codes and it comes up running lean on both banks. I retighten the gas cap and clear the codes. the next day on my way to work the cel comes back on same codes. intake bolts are still torqued to spec, all vacuum lines are good (idles perfect) and there is no leaks on the intake did the starting fluid trick. any clues

I will check the wiring in the am but all the sensors where replaced within the last year or so. im pretty sure I would get an o2 code if it was a wire. I don't think it matters but I did have the intake manifold cleaned while it was out if it makes any diffrence

strange that it did it after getting fuel. i would take the fuel filter out and dump it in a clear container, dump from the tank side of the filter to get an idea of what if anything its been catching. also look for water, water should sink to the bottom of the container. test fuel pressure, check 02 sensors and spark plugs for fouling, all black. fouling 02 can show a lean condition when really its normal, it will continue to adjust adding more fuel and fouling the 02s more which will cause the 02 to see even less fuel that is there. check air filter, just for piece of mind. let us know what you find.

When an engine starts to act up shortly after filling the gas tank, you should always first suspect the gas is the culprit. Keep that in mind before you start dismantling your engine.

Ok here's what I found it turns out the rubber elbow that connects to the pcv was damaged. It only started to leak after the car warmed up. So I guess the culprit was unmetered air. Thank you for all the help and sorry for the rookie mistake

I use a propane gas torch with a length of rubber hose to direct the gas to where i want it. Seems to work better than the carb cleaner trick... always raises the idle more drastically for me and it seems to be sucked up by the leak much easier if you know what I mean.

Did you pick up that tip from the "Mechanic Hints" thread? https://camaroforums.com/forum/gener...s-41760/page3/
