Best way to replace LT1 head gaskets??
I can't believe how tight it is around these engines.
I'm seriously considering dropping the entire engine and M6 out the bottom.
I'd like to hear from someone who has done this before.
Many thanks...

i haven't actually taken the heads off in the car...but i've pulled the engine and it really isn't that bad. probably took us about 4 hours to actually have the thing on the floor.
hell, you can always do some cleaning while you have it all out!

I have done the heads in the 3.8 while it is in the car and it wasn't all that bad. I am going to be doing the heads on a LT1 in a few weeks. Reading up on what all needs to be disconnected right now. Once the intake is off, it opens up alot of elbow room in there. I think the hardest part is getting manifolds off the heads and a steam pipe that runs behind the engine from head to head, from what I have read. Of course, it always takes longer to put the plugs back in than it does to do anything else! I try to make sure every wire and bolt is put back in the exact same place they were removed, every harness is routed the same way it was prior to removing, so it takes me a little longer to do things than some of my buddies!

every time I go to a car show or cruise night and look under the hood of a 60's or early 70's maro or chevelle, and then look back at the 4th gen f-body, I just cry. What in heavens name were the engineers smoking when they designed the engine bay of the 4th gens?????

ive done it a few times its not that hard there is plenty of room to do it . it should take you about 2.5 to get them off one thing i MUST stress use a sealeant on the head bolts other wise it will blow coolant past the bolts
