96 z28 loosing coolant
Howdy new to the forum and to camaro's I have a 96 z28 I picked up recently that is loosing coolant have replaced water pump due to leaking out the weep hole, replaced thermostat and rad cap, it is losing coolant still and seems to run hot will get up to 235 and stay there a while even when coolant is full. It dose not draw from the overflow ever not sure if it pumps coolant into the overflow but it has never gotten over full and dosent tend to leak to much about a 300 mile trim and it took less than 1/4 gallon to top off found found Crack in rad by fill neck and jb welded as temp fix tell I can fined real issue and yes still losing coolant but never has a puddle or obvious leak. No smoking or smell from tail pipes oil and coolant apearently clean and not contaminated and runs smoth with no miss I am at a loss any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you for any answers.

start by bleeding the air out of the cooling system,,, a few times. click number 1 here https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...rt-here-38462/
then do a pressure test on the cooling system to see if you can find a leak if there is one. most parts stores rent or loan radiator pressure tester.

I have done the bleeding process multiple times and I will try and grab a pressure tester this weekend but I assumed while running at operating temp I would be able to fined any external leaks even when the car is running at 235 right before the fans kick in I have searched with no luck in finding a leak but I will pressure test it soon but what about the hot running temp is that normal. Roughly 185 on the hyw and gets up to 235 in town before fans kick in but even when fans kick in it dose not drop a whole bunch

have a look at this.4th Gen LT1 F-body Tech Articles if you have a very small leak it will only show when cooling system is pressuring up as temp raises. at this time the engine is running and you are usually on the road. i had a hose leak like this and the only way i found it was pressuring up the system and poking and pulling on hoses, not jaming or jerking. lol

Thank you again and I will be replacing the temp sensor on the watter pump due to it is hard starting and running rich as well as I will have to figure out why my fans never come on low speed they only seem to operate on high speed at 235

you can test the current sensor using a ohm meter and this graph 4th Gen LT1 F-body Tech Articles truck was starting and idling bad so i tested its sensor and found it was showing -40 degrees. computer was dumping mass fuel to it.

Awsome, again thank you for all the help I will check the sensor this weekend as well. And as for the fans not kicking in until 235 I assume that would be low fan speed inop is there a fuse for just the low speed or is it most likely a relay issue

be careful could be very slow head gasket leak ,wich i am sure you concidered ,mine took near a year to get so bad i went with the swap ,i actaully could have drove it longer ,the fans dod not come on at the right times was big sign never had any water in the oil,but hope thats not it ,there very tough engines ,one of the strongest i have had ,but not bullet proof
