Default 94 LT1 OIL type to use ?

Hi Everyone ! Just put 500 miles on the rebuilt to stock LT1 engine and it's time for an oil change. I think the book calls out for 5W-30 to 10W-40 weight oil but I wasn't sure if we can use Synthetic or regular. I looked on the Stickys but didn't see anything. Any suggestions or warnings about this ??

^ He's in love with oil I guess?
After the break in period, you can use synthetic. I use Mobil1, but what brand is a personal choice since everybody says theirs is better anyway.
And for what it's worth, the earlier C4 Vettes came with an oil cooler. When the LT1 came out, GM equipped the engine with Mobil1 synthetic from the factory and dropped the use of an oil cooler because of the oil used. They obviously also recommended it's continued use.

I wanted to use Mobile1 Synthetic and filter, 4Qts10W-30 and 1Qt 20W-50 just for a little extra protection. You posted on oil filters once and convinced me to never buy a fram oil filter again Thanks ! http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...reference.html
I wasnt sure about using Synthetic, thanks for clearing that up. I kept the oil cooler hooked up too.

Got to agree with 69 on this, I've used mobil 1 5W-30/filter on my car since the day I got it at 32K miles, it now has 190K on it and still runs like a screwed monkey and doesn't use any oil. Of course I change mine every 2K miles.

4 qts. of whatever synthetic is on sale at autozone/advance/pepboys/whatever and one qt. of Lucas oil stabilizer. I swear by that stuff...My engine runs like a top.

You mean this stuff? http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm
Read the whole thing and you might just start swearing at that stuff instead of by it!
Synthetic oil is already far superior to regular oil, and doesn't need any kind of "snake oil" potions to make it "better". It's already designed to be better.

Amen to that. Every year some outfit comes out with some magic potion to add to your oil to make your engine run forever. Just use a brand name syntethic and change it and the filter at regular intervals. I don't believe in the 7500 mile intervals either, the oil may still be good but all the accumulated dirt is being circulated around in the engine and causing extra wear. Same with the filter, it can only hold so much gunk and when it is full the filter bypass valve opens and now oil gets circulated without being filtered.
