ok my boyfriend has a 1997 chevy camaro z28 5.7L v8........ it sat up for about 3 years. needed a clutch. well changed the clutch finally and got it running. he drove it to my house and it ran hot... the waterpump and distributor went bad. ( we think) water was coming out of the weep hole.. we put a diagnostic reader on it and it showed crank sencrenizer or something and rapid miss fire.... so since we figured the optispark distributor was bad we figured it had to do with that but changed the spark plugs and wires along with a ew coil wire. i put the distributor (the old one) on and cranked it, cranked and sounded good but would not stay cranked. he is going to replace the fuel filter and see if that works. it is getting fire and air so we figured it had to be fuel. he did take the injectors out and cleaned them up. so there it is lol think you could help

what was the code that showed when you hand the diagnostic scanner on it. crank sensor is behind the balancer/crank pulley look at the diagram here http://shbox.com/1/engine_front_diagram.jpg at the upper left corner you will see it. i would say the opti is probly not happy after setting for a few years and may have a part in the issue. knowing what the trouble code was from the scanner could be a big help.

i have already looked up all the codes there meanings and causes and all that.we havent put the diagnostic back on there since we replaced everything or should i say jus put everything back on so im not sure what codes are now. it seems like when everything is cold it wants to run but once u shut it off after the motoe gets hot it doesnt wana crank again. could it have something to do with the fuel filter or did he buy that for no reason? should we just buy a new opti and waterpump and try things again after they are replaced

test the fuel pressure, low/high fuel pressure will not throw a code. did you drain all the old gas outa the system? be best to know what the codes are and fix known problems first.

no did not drain old fuel. had old fuel in it and drove it on almost empty for about 10 mins one time and 15 another. then it hasnt left the yard since. he is thinking that maybe it sitting up for that long and driving it on E sloshing that fuel around might have got some rust or nasty stuff in the fuel system. it ran before he took the opti and watepump off then not after....... some of the codes are PO336,PO372,PO102,PO410. and what does ECT stand for? it was on he diagnostic tool.
