Default 1995 LT1 water pump shaft installation

Hello, I am putting my car back together. I actually changed all the spark plugs and the wires. Not fun. I am replacing the water pump drive shaft. I got the old one out. The surface where it seals seemed worn, and the bearing at the back of the shaft did not feel right. Can anyone advise me of how to install the new pump drive shaft. It definitely is a tight fit, and I don't want to break anything. I was going to force it in close enough to get the two allen screws started and then use them to force it in the rest of the way. I am not sure that is the way to go, and I believe the guys on this form are better than me. Anyone have experience in installing a new water pump drive shaft? Thanks for any help!

i guess i dont understand what youre saying. the seal on the timing cover? and the bearing on the water pump? the shaft just slides in place. you have to make sure the splines are lined up, but thats it.

Thanks for the response. The water pump drive shaft has a bearing, and a plate on the back of it where it is pressed into the engine block, and then the plate bolts on with two screws. I am trying to install the water pump drive shaft back into the engine block. I think, based on what was written, you are thinking I mean the end of the shaft that fits into the water pump coupling. It is actually the end that mounts into the engine block. I was thinking of banging it in using a deep socket to fit over the front part of the shaft and then rest the socket onto the mounting plate. Thanks

on my 94 lt1 the water pump has a shaft coming out, then a coupler, then another shaft that goes through the timing cover to the cam gear. theres no pressing, just line up the teeth a push in.
