So im looking for an Ls1 for the swap into my third gen. Im not too familar with the Ls series so i dont know what to expect from these engines as far as relabilty from higher mileage. All the motors i find for sale have around 75,000-100,000 miles. What i would like to know is generally how many miles are these motors good for until you need a rebuild? Assuming normal maintence is done like 3,000 mile oil changes.

 

Like you said, it all would depend on maintenance, but you can expect your average LS1 to get over 200k miles as I've seen from many LS engines on these camaro/firebird sites if you make sure to keep an eye on the oil pump around 100-120k and replace/upgrade it

 

That would make sense. I don't own one but I have noticed, On one hand you got guys lifting the front end off the ground with stock bottom ends on the other hand about a 1/3 of the cars I see for sale with over 100,000 miles on them list "New" engine in their add.

 

My first LS1 was a 2000 WS6 with around 80K on her. The car had been run hard and had nitrous on it. I changed the nitrous set up a little and ran her with the bottle up to around 97k when i switched to a TTI 60-1 turbo set up. At 103K i upgraded to a T76 at 10 psi she made 540 rwhp with a built 4L60 and 12 bolt. When i sold the car at 110K she was still running strong with over 100 track passes and lots of smiles. I pushed that motor way past the safe limits but she never let me down. If you take care of them a LS motor will last you 200K with no problem.

 

The LS engine has been hailed by critics as one of the best designs in recent years. I own 2, and they're superior to my LT1 although I still enjoy it very much so.

 

I dont know what youre referring to about the oil pump around 100-120k. My LS1 is bone stock and has 203,650 miles on it, original oil pump, and i have 60 psi when cold. about 35-40 psi at idle when hot. the 60 was at idle also. knock on wood so i dont lose my pump tomorrow. But my LS1 runs perfectly. The only thing is, i think it could benefit from new injectors, but thats not unuall for the miles. I still get 28 mph highway.

 

He didn't mean that all LS engines have this problem. And even if it was a majority you could just be that lucky guy that didn't have the problem out of the majority. BUT a decent number of LS engines have had oil pump failures around that mileage.

 

ahh ok. Ive never heard of that problem, thats why i was a little suprised
