Default Headlight problems

I've got a 69 RS/SS that's having a strange headlight problem. Since it's my first post, allow me to introduce you to my mistress:

When I first bought the car there were some electrical problems, sometimes it wouldn't turn over (not even click the starter), so I had my favorite mechanic re-do most of the electrical.

I was out cruising lastnight when all of a sudden my headlights turned off. I pushed the floor pedal and got nothing. After letting the car sit for a little while they turned back off. I drove around my neighborhood for about an hour and they turned on and back off sporadically. Hard accelerating and turns really had no effect on it. So, my question is what might be causing this? Relay, switch, loose connection? Where should I start. Thanks for any input!

are the headlamps new on my 63 i had the same problem i could hit my headlight with my hand and it would turn back on so you might want to see if you have voltage at the headlights with a voltmeter if you do its the headlights

I started with cleaning the switch, we'll see if that helps at all. If they shut off again I'll take my voltmeter and see what I get.

just a quick update, after cleaning the switch and driving it up and down Woodward (I live in Detroit) all last night the problem didn't arise again. So, I'm hoping it was the switch and that was it...
