Default exhaust popping and cutting out

I am having issues with popping noises in my exhaust and cutting out/surging. Having had this problem before, I first checked the plug wires and found number 5 burned through on the header. I replaced the wire and installed a heat shield boot and the problem seemed to be solved, until the engine warmed up and then the popping, cutting out resumed. I checked the temps of each pipe on that side and got about 450 on 1, 3, and 7 but #5 was only 210. Everything seems to start after 15 minutes or so of driving when the engine warms up. Any ideas?

Check your timing. to far one way or another could cause it to pop either through the exhaust or intake.

gw your symptoms can come from a variety of problems and i would suggest you start with some basics to avoid chasing your tail on this one. not knowing the age and or condition of the engine id do a compression test first to be sure we have viable mechanicals on this one. if this proves good then we can look at possible ignition and fuel causes kurt
