My '71 was originally purcahsed by me in 1973 to go drag racing. Spent 16 yrs. doing that, then parked it for 10-11 yrs. In late 1999 I began rebuilding it, keeping some of it's heritage, but making it street legal again.
Engine/Drivetrain Modifications:
Original 396 was pulled at the dealership when purchased new, and changed to a 390 HP Corvette crate engine. Over the years it's been modified somewhat with a .040" bore, TRW forged 9.5:1 pistons, solid lifter 284/288-530 lift cam, lots of head work, original Torker intake, Doug Thorley headers, 2.5" full length exhaust. Recently added a methanol Injectronic system to avoid pinging or detonation under hard acceleration.
Tranny is a highly modified TH350, with Transgo competition manual shift kit, 2200 stall converter, and B&M shifter.
10 bolt axle with Dutchman axles, Power Trax locker, outboard bearing C-clip elimnator kit, 3:42 Richmond gears.
Suspension Modifications:
Poly bushing kit for all suspension, gas shocks front, air shocks rear with dual feed kit to preload the suspension, custom built traction bars.
Wheels/Tires Modifications:
Factory 1st gen rally slots with stainless rings and caps. Fronts are 7" and rears were custom altered to 10" outter rims. N50 MT rear ties and 235-60 front tires.
Interior/Exterior Modifications:
Front seats reupholstered in diamond pattern, no rear seats. Back seating area paneled and covered with black wool carpeting, and custom storage bins in seat area. 4 point rollcage, RCI 5 pt. harnesses, extinguisher.
Gauge pods remote mounted on custom brac ket. OER cowl hood, custom one piece spoiler with 4" extension in back. Hedman fender flares to cover the big MT tires.
GM stealth gray metallic pearl paint, with black saphire pearl SS stripes.
Future Modifications:
