Ok so basically i know a little bitabout cams, and i talked to a tech guy earlier today and he suggested this cam to my application.

It seems like a pretty big difference in specs. is this a good cam for daily use, and good power gains in the low and midrange?
What will this do to the idle if anything?
Heres a comparison between the factory one and the Comp Cams one.

Much bigger cam than the other. Definitely will give you a lumpy idle.Power gaindepends on how good your heads flow.

What is the engine compression?

 

its stock at 9.3(or 9.5):1. it wasnt the origional motor that was in the car.

I havent had alot of time to go through the cams you posted but to help you out here is a dynamic compression calculator that gives the theoretical fuel octane rating among alot of other good info. http://www.hotroddersauctions.com/Dy...Calculator.php
I wouldnt go to crazy with a radical cam (higher duation, low lobe separation) the lower compression you have will not make a radical cam the best choice. I have run a few different cams it the current 9.5:1 engine and have recently installed a .465 lift 280 duration cam from summit for the engines final go so far I liked the 270 magnum from comp we havent tried the extreme series because we only have the stock valvetrane setup we ran a 8.22 in the 8th with the 270. I wouldnt have chosen the 280 duration but it was the only thing close and for $60 cam and lifters Ill give it a shot lol.

Are you running the stock tpi heads? I am not overly familiar with them but I believe you need to realy nail down the spring requirements and also the lift capabilities of the head (ie press in studs) I think you will find the heads will require some machine work to use that cam. I just bought a comp 280 magnum and the instructions point out the cam will not work in some stock valve trains without causing bind its 480 lift. I would go for less duration and lift if it was mine to use in a street engine. Find out what the heads can handle regarding lift if you need to reduce lift you will also find in generalthe duration to be reduced (flat tappit hydraulic) it will suit your engine better. Once you determine the lift pick a few cams with durations less than 270 and pref a split duration, I will run the specs on dd dyno for ya to see what it spits out I need to know the intake cfm and Ill use the L98 head specs.
