Ok as we all know one of the best mods to an LS1 is the intake system such as an SLP lid with k and n filter and a smooth bellow. However is it enough to simple remove the lid and put the new one on??
If we all look carefully, we can see where the air is sucked in at the front through the roughly 1 x 12 inch gap. This still restricts the air intake system and does nt really allow as much cold air is as possible. On the market there are some producs such as the full slp CAI which route air from under the car into the intake - but these cost $200+
You can do a similar mod for free, I feel it is more effective and also wont direct water into you intake.
Steps:
1) Remove the intake lid, filter, bellow and holder tray
2) Unscrew the 4 bolts that keep the air filter base/radiator mounting piece in place
3) Using a fine tooth saw blade (be careful here and use some thick work gloves) cut out the under side of the tray. This will effectivly allow air up from under the car
4) You can also remove one of the plastic deflectors the is infront of the radiator
5) Bolt the radiator support piece you just cut back in. You should be able to see the floor. This means air will now be directed up from under the car and allows much more breating room for the intake sstem
6) Put the filter tray back in, the filter, bellow and lid. Again looking under the car you should be able to physically see the air filter
NB: take care when cutting the radiator support tray and make sure you ont cut out the bits the air filter trays sits onto. This mod is left for you owner to choose, im in UK and it rain here (A LOT) and i have had no problems. I hope this helfs and gains you all some free ponies
