Best way to remove 3.8L engine?
#3
Just finished removing one. I sit an looked at it for over a month debating. I read articles on the internet on how to remove out the bottom, then decided, since I have never removed one that way, what the heck. To my surprise, I do believe it was as easy if not easier to come out the bottom than the top. But as previous poster said, you will need some room. We made a few mistakes but if/when we have to do it again, it will be much easier.

I too removed the motor from the bottom in my 96. You need room I have a 1-1/2 (20X23) and it really was not big enough. Its a no brainer if you have a lift. I researched it pretty hvy and found some guys that have done it both ways. Those guys have all said its easier going out the bottom. I think the issue with going out of the top is the exhaust manifold. It not easy to get them off and they do not fit up thru. One of the reason I went out of the bottm was because I was adding headers and I wanted to pull the tranny anyways to drain it real good. If I have to pull the motor back out to fix it. i would most likely go out of the top just because of the room..
