Default Last minute advice: Cam and Trannie Questions

Okay. I need to finally get a cam kit so I can wrap up my engine rebuild, first I have a couple questions about a cam I am on the verge of buying. First things first. I am looking at getting this kit (http://www.compperformancegroupstore...Code=K08-422-8) which is the XR270HR cam kit.

Has anyone installed this cam before and what are your impressions?

Also the specs sheet says under Cam Family: "XTREME Energy™ 1987-1998 305-350 Originally Equipped With Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, Except LT1 and LT4." Does this mean I shouldn't use this on my LT1?

And lastly will I be able to pull this off with my stock transmission?

Engine Details:
350 SBC 0.080" over
Vortec Heads
Performance TBI throttle body
Rebuilt TBI

Lt1/Lt4 cams have a drive pin for the opti. Cams for regular small blocks do not have a drive pin. The cam will fit the LT1 but won't be able to spin the opti.

I don't know what an opti is or what it does. Should I not use that cam beacause of that? And if I still can use it, what limitations will having a cam that won't spin this so called opti?

Oh, okay. You said it wont work on the newer 350s, but I dont know how old you meant. Here's the info...

http://www.ajgeneral.com/sbc_block_casting_numbers/
Casting number: 14093638
Engine size: 350
Model Apllication: 86 - 87 Truck or 87 Camaro
1 piece rear main seal

These are my heads: http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=302400
And this is my intake: http://spideraccessories.stores.yaho...rtbiinmae.html

I still dont know what an opti is, but should I still go through with getting this kit? I really want to get a kit asap so I can finish up my engine and get the car back on the road! It's been since January since I ran the thing and I miss my 'maro!

What I said was the heads will not work on the newer LT1 you do not have an LT1. You do not have an optispark its a distributor on the newer LT1. The newer LT1 utilizes reverse cooling and different oil passages than the convertional smallblock. The old LT1 produced in the early 70s is a conventional smallblock. You have a later model conventional smallblock... you have the RHS vortec heads right? If you do I dont belive there should ba a issue with cam lift as in the factory vortecs and they adverise any standard smallblock manifold should work so the components should work together.
