5.7 crate vortec heads 1.6 ratio change
Has anyone just changed just the rockers to 1.6 ratio of a stock GM 5.7 crate motor with vortec heads? Guessing the stock cam is .414/428 lift and .191/.196 duration. Wondering how it runs/sounds? Thanks

Hey how are you? You answered one of my other questions a week ago (Vortec 350 build help). I have the 96-00 255hp with 062 heads. I was just wondering if anyone had actually done this & how it ran. It would save some money & work just changing the rocker ratio/studs to get close to the XR276 Comp cam numbers. Just kinda throwing it out there as a curiosity.

Your right on the size of the cam. I would run it as is and save the money from the 1.6 rockers and when you are ready have the spring changed. Comp cams has some bee hive springs that work real well the HYD roller set up you have. These spring are good to around .525 lift for a roller cam. The weight of the vehicle gearing and trans and converter all should be taken into consideration when selecting a cam. Call Comp. cams at 1-800-999-0853 have all you information ready and let them make a suggestion.
