Hey. Im 16..and car shopping. I'm thinking of getting a camaro cause my sis's bf's got a z28. I've tried those free online car insurance quotes..but idk..they get confusing. I want a car that doesn't cost a fortune for the insurance cause im making like a little better than minimum wage. Can anyone post: Camaro model, doors, roof, age (preferably closer to mine), and how much your insurance is?? It would be a great help. Thanks.

Sorry to tell you this but if it is a newer Camaro you want the insurence will be crazy. Now if you go for a third gen, and only have liabilty coverage it might be alot more affordible.

Another thing you could do is register it under your parents name, it will help a little if you are not listed as the primary driver.

insurance on any car is going to be rediculous for you. save yourself alot of money and hassles and dont drive like an idiot. racing is cool, but keep it on the track. take it from me, i just got done with all 14 of my liscense points, and i bought a more low profile car

The insurance companies, as a general practice, will set rates according to age, time licensed, driving record, type of car, and even yor credit report.
In your case you are being hit for:

1) Being 16 years old and under 25 years old
2) Having been licensed for less than 2 years
3) Surcharged for insuring a high performance car
4) Any moving traffic violations (different penalties for different tickets)
5) Any at fault accidents
6) Not having established a credit rating
7) Any comprehensive claims, such as fire, theft, trees falling on your car, etc..

All these charges, except for #7, apply to both liability insurance, which is mandatory on most states, and to collision insurance, which pays for collision damages to your car when you have an at fault accident, usually required if you take out a car loan.

In your case this adds up to a huge bill. You can save money by getting an older car that does warrant taking out collision and comprehensive. Do not get any tickets, drive safely, get a car that is not considered high performance, a six cylinder Camaro instead of an eight cylinder, take a drivers ed course in school, saves big bux till you reach 21. Restrict your racing to a drag strip or race track. Keep your car looking and sounding stock, you want to be in stealth mode to avoid being stopped by cops for minor infractions. You can also save money by having an adult member of your family register an insure your car in his/her name, and list you as an occasional driver. This way you can get multiple car discounts. Insurance is a big bite till you turn 25.

Yeah, I can understand how you feel. I went through the same deal, but not quite as bad you. As NJ has the highest rates in the country. I am just telling CamaroDude16 what to expect when he goes to buy insurance.

When I was 18, insurance just for a '97 V6 was $125/month, and that was liability only. Now I am 23 and pay $260/month for a '02 Mustang GT. No tickets either.

It depends on where you live bud, because i swear someone just posted they pay over 900 a month for full coverage. That what i call gettin stiffed.
I have a 2000 SS and i pay 185 a month for full coverage. And if your like i was, insurance wont stop you from getting, as we all know one of the best cars ever made.

Yes, the insurance companies really like to sock it to NJ drivers, but we in NY are second in line. I think we should start a revolt or something.

I bought my 83 when I was 15. Insurance was 325 month here in mi when I turned 16. I lost my drivers due to racing and got a california license. There insurance was almost 600 month! they had me listed as no tickets and for heavens sake in the ARMY. Well today the same car ( I am 35 now) cost me a whooping 450 a year if I kept it on full coverage . Though to be fair it spends winter months on vacation but I still have comp on it so it is a little cheaper.
When spring or better weather rolls out I am back to full coverage.

go for a third generation 1982-1992. im 17 and i my insurance is about 250 w/ geico. i have the 2.8 v6 and my dad is listed as the primary driver. the v8 models will be slightly more expensive but not a real big difference i wouldnt think

ud probably like either an IROC-Z, Z28, or RS
they come factory w/ the sideskirts and V8's....certain RS's come w/ a V6
i personally would go w/ the v8 if u have the choice.

not many high school kids have third gens or older, that for me made it perfect.....and its not soo old that there will be a lot to work on, depending on previous owner/'s they're very dependable. but be prepared to put some money into it as its an older car and things wear out w/ time. for me, the best part about owning an older car is having something to work for and make my own. third gen firebirds are nice as well and are practically the same car, u might wanna look into them as well

Damn, you guys must all be teens. I'm 31 and pay $33/mo for my 1994 Camaro. That's with $1,000 deductible, and having it on my insurance as a "pleasure vehicle." I pay $98/mo on my 2005 Subaru WRX STi. $250 deductible, and full coverage.

Im 18 I live in Hampton VA and I just bought a 1995 and 1997 camero. I destroyed the 95 the first week i got it, i had liabilty and it was pretty much a waste of $3,000 dollars. But the insurance for that was like $680 for 6 months. The 98 is going to be about $220 a month just because I didnt like losing $3,000 in 1 week. I hate virginia drivers!

im 17 and i just called my agent the other day and for me to get a 95 z28 it was $311 every 6 mo. Thats with liability only but for my 94 chevy 1500 z-71 w/ 9' lift and 37' tires its like 71 per mo. but i also get a good driver discount (thanks to diversion), multi car, house, good grades, and drivers ed discounts. So im lucky w/ all the discounts. Im w/ AAA on my own plan but collect the multi car and house discount b/c my mom is also through AAA. i hope it works out for you, and me i just have to sell my truck first!

ok since it looks like i have been driving a hell of alot longer than anyone else in that whole QA segment. i'm 23. find out what it would be on your parents insurance. see if there are any discounts that you can get. DO NOT street race. everyone has to deal with the crap about paying more first. watch your driving be safe. I know some states have driving schools throught the highway patrol or a credited school your insurance company. I pay 60 a month through Esurance.com liabilaty on 95 Z28. No tickets no accidents. just shop around

I'm 18 in a few months and am about to buy an '86 IROC. Back when I got my license (late 16) I had to pay $215 a month for..... a friggin '93 F-150 with only liability (but we have 3 other cars under our plan (right now); 2000 Maxima, 2005 Civic, 2005 Accord coupe) I'm scared to wonder what I'll be charged for an IROC. I have had my license for a year and have no tickets, accidents, incidents at all. I would only pay liability for the Camaro because the two I am looking at are only $2,500 and $2,200 so it's not really worth it. Anyone want to guess how much I'll have to pay [:@] I live in Maryland by the way.

EDIT: I looked up the VIN # and the car has a 5.0L V8 TPI OHV, I thought it would have been a 5.7 litre... so maybe it won't be too too bad

I am 20, live in SC and pay $95 a month on my own insurance policy for my 89 RS and about $90 a month for my 82 Berlinetta, which is still on my dad's insurance policy. These are both liabilty. I know if I had them together I would probably pay less but I am too lazy to go change my addresa and all that with the insurance company since I moved. I know that's bad, but that's just me. :)

for my 02' v6, I pay 380 a month for full coverage. I'm 19, no tickets, live in MN. I was quoted at 600 a month for an SS, which is why I have to way a few years for the big boy camaro. In the mean time, I'm doing full exhaust and looking into a supercharger for my v6, which looks sexy as hell by the way. I have mods planned that I can afford within the next 5 months that will put me at more hp than a stock v8 camaro, then again this is all "on paper". Take your pick, but moving violations (speeding especially), like said above, will screw you over pretty harshly.

Hey man I have a 02 SS (which insurance companies still compare to a Z28) and Im only 20 but I got through with only paying about 200 a month but Im under my mothers Ford Sport Track. If I was insured under the camaro it will be about 350 a month THATS MORE THEN THE DAMN CAR PAYMENT ITSELF!!!!

When I got my V6 Camaro I was 18 and our company said it was going to be $330 a month for me to be insured on it for full coverage($466 if I had gotten a V8) and that was with no tickets and one very minor fender bender. So we did the old switcheroo where my Dad is insured on it and now it's only $60 a month.

Easiest way for you to find out how much you are going to pay, call up local agents....they can give you a quote in less than five minutes with just a few questions. I called my agent today and asked how much the camaro is going to cost me insurance wise. In three minutes she told me $90 bucks a month full coverage....of course I have been with this insurance agency forever, and I will be turning 25 soon (she accounted for that) thats why mine is so low.

Anyways, good luck, and hopefully you'll find some decently priced insurance.
