I was thinking what size engine will be in the new Camaro? (Since GM did say there would be a V6 Camaro.) I was thinking it will be the V6 Vortec... Or maybe a turbocharged 3.8. What do you guys think?

View Full Version : V6 Camaro Redneck97 11-23-2006, 02:43 AM I was thinking what size engine will be in the new Camaro? (Since GM did say there would be a V6 Camaro.) Even though I perfer the V-8 SBC, it would bring the Camaro V-6er's back in the comp with the ricers. And you wouldn't be hearing all these guys crying about how do you increase your hp to compete with the faster ricers. I could never understand why GM gave the front wheel drive cars the supercharger and not the camaro. local://upfiles/2816/45D7B0F8EE3F4A7892C6B3AB4237A077.jpg 94CamaroSFI 11-23-2006, 12:57 PM I don't think they should turbo it, Just because that's not really GM's style. I think the V6 should be supercharged. It always bugged me that they put a supercharger on a bonneville but not on a sports car. I think it should go like this base model 3.9 Direct Injected V6, RS Appearance Package And Supercharged 3.9 Direct Injected, then Z28 with a 6.0 450 hp V8 from the LS family, Then an SS with appearance package and either a bigger v8 or a supercharged v8. i could careless about a convertible but I'd definately want T-tops Redneck97 11-23-2006, 03:13 PM well this car is going to be a competitor of the Mustang and that V6 has a 4.3 kinda figure it will be bigger or the same O.o? 94Z28SHAKER 11-23-2006, 05:08 PM im just wondering how heavy the car will be, if its heavyer than the mustangs the v-6's will have to at least be supercharged. 94CamaroSFI 11-23-2006, 08:34 PM well this car is going to be a competitor of the Mustang and that V6 has a 4.3 kinda figure it will be bigger or the same O.o? The mustang has a 210 horsepower 4.0L and it weighs in at 3300 Lbs for the V6 w/ a manual transmission. I still say it will be a 3.9, It's doesn't have to be bigger than the mustang's v6 in Liters it just has to perform better. The 3.9 is putting out 242 horsepower compared to the mustang's 210. It's the successor of the 60 degree v6's that camaros had in 93-02, so it just makes sense. I've heard rumors about a new 3.9 with direct injection.. Seems like a likely canidate. Read more about direct injection here and it's benefits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_Direct_Injection it also features varible valve timing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VVT Redneck97 11-23-2006, 11:02 PM well still why not use the vortec 4.3? it will push more power then the 3.9....hell personally id like the have a huge V6....kinda lets the camaro have one more plus to it. 94CamaroSFI 01-23-2007, 01:50 AM I dont think you realize that the 3.9 is a totally new engine built from the ground up. the 3.9 will perform as well as some older stock v8's with 250 Hp factory. It has varible valve timing that is similar to v-tec. It is a truly amazing engine for a v6.... The 4.3 is dead for sports cars. It has a home in the heart of Blazers. Redneck97 01-23-2007, 02:35 AM indeed spiffy new engine to first time ive heard of the 3.9. sounds likea great engine. Im just wanting a nice sixers that makes the GT scared :-P and then a V8 and just makes them fall to there knee's but uhhh yea. :-P badinfluenceRS 01-28-2007, 02:57 AM vortecs=trucks/suvs bill12690 01-28-2007, 02:25 PM ORIGINAL: 94CamaroSFI I think it should go like this base model 3.9 Direct Injected V6, RS Appearance Package And Supercharged 3.9 Direct Injected, then Z28 with a 6.0 450 hp V8 from the LS family, Then an SS with appearance package and either a bigger v8 or a supercharged v8. i could careless about a convertible but I'd definately want T-tops that would be pure greatness.. jhop16 01-28-2007, 08:54 PM i havent seen any pics released of a v6 maro... its not going to be completely gheyed out like they did wit hteh v6 mustangs is it... i think they should still give it a stock duel exhaust ... maybe some smaller rims ( not digging the big hot wheels ) JHL88 02-12-2007, 06:38 PM dual exaust would be sweet on a v6 but i seriously doubt gm would do that, along with the t-tops... i pray that would come along with it that would be kick ass im just curious to see what theyre are goin to do with the v6. They have to realize that ford is losing money like crazy and we have alot more than they do so they should show it. even though gay toyota is goin to hit #1 this upcoming year. goddangit badinfluenceRS 02-13-2007, 03:06 AM based on current vehicles, there probably will be a V6 performance/appearance package (comparable to the LTZ models ie impala, 3.9 V6 w/ features available on the 5.3 V8 SS) GreatWhite00 02-23-2007, 02:17 PM I'd buy a 3.9. I was considering a Monte Carlo, but I am going to wait it out until this new Camaro hits. z28pete 02-23-2007, 06:15 PM The 3.6L 255 hp V6 usedin Cadillacswould be nice, although the 3.9 is not bad either and probably cheaper. 94CamaroSFI 02-26-2007, 03:59 PM "As for the powertrain options, there will be a high performing V8, as well as a couple of V6 options (a fuel-efficient and a high-performance version"- Chevy General Manager Ed Piper Hmmm high performance... Supercharger perhaps? Seems like a likely suspect considering Chevy has been supercharging monte carlos, cobalts, etc... not to mention Pontiac's GTP, bonneville SSEI. So here is my camaro lineup prediction as of now. The fuel efficent v6 will be Camaro, The high-performance v6 will be named Camaro SS (that's chevy's new thing now SS's are usually supercharged) then we go to the V8 which will be the Z28. I wonder where/if the rally sport RS package would be an appearance package. I am really loving the idea of a high performance v6 if it is supercharged. I love the sound of a v8 but there's just something about the whistle of a supercharger that makes me lean towards the super-six. although Im sure by 2010 there will be a supercharged Z28. :D badinfluenceRS 02-28-2007, 03:36 AM SS WILL be the top of the line most likely (The new 600hp Corvette is going to be called the Corvette SS) Lineup: 3.9 V6 Base 3.9 V6 LTZ or RS (appearance package...might not happen until a few years after 2009) 5.3 303hp or 6.0 400hp Z28 6.0 400hp or 7.0 500hp SS and why not a... 600hp Corvette SS engine Camaro ZL1 (just dreaming but that would be SWEET) |
