View Full Version : more exhuast advice..... camarogirl97 06-15-2005, 03:39 AM Hey i was lookin in JEGS...and saw a 2.25' Dia Tubing, 2.5' DOR, 80-Series Muffler, Force-II system with a 3.8 v6..would that sound pretty decent or not? what about american thunder?? JD1969 06-15-2005, 10:29 AM Most chambered systems (like Flowmaster) will sound tinny and alittle raspy. I am a fan of Dynomax because it is a straight through desighn and has deep tone. Listen to other cars and ask the owners what system they have, but remember you a V6 so it will sound way different than a V8 Patrick 06-15-2005, 01:31 PM isnt american thunder just a flowmaster model? i know that my mufflers are from flowmaster, and are not chambered, but they are also supposedly "not for street use" JD1969 06-15-2005, 04:01 PM I don't know who makes Amrican Thunder. As far as I know all Flowmasters are chambered, what model do you have? Patrick 06-15-2005, 08:07 PM i have older supercomp race mufflers..."header mufflers"...honestly, i didnt pay anything for them..a friend of mine was building a 56 chevy a while back, and he went to 4 inch...so he gave me his system from the chevy...i would say that they are 11 years old or so... and since PennDOT doesnt allow my car on the street anymore, i took it off because its just dead weight...i run alsmot the exact same times with and without the pipes..i contribute what little different there is to the weight, since my entire system drops in two pieces from the header back. the front side is offset, and the rear is centered, but prior to welding the system to them, you could look "straight through" them, but at an angle...and if im not mistaken, chambered would not be a straight through muffler, correct? JD1969 06-15-2005, 09:31 PM right on chambered you would not be able to see through them. Why does the PennDOT not allow your car on the road anymore? nj85z28 06-16-2005, 12:23 AM ORIGINAL: JD1969 I don't know who makes Amrican Thunder. As far as I know all Flowmasters are chambered, what model do you have? American Thunder is a Flowmaster Series camarogirl97 06-16-2005, 01:22 AM Hey- Yeah american thunder is a flowmaster type theres just differnt kinds you know. I'm just a girl i don't know a whole lot about this. My car is a 1997 3.8 coupe series 2. If that helps you any. I don't know many people who own a camaro so it will be sort of hard to get advice that way. I just want a good exhuast system that sounds decent and not too obnoxciously loud and spendy. i would show you a picture of what im looking at but i dunno how to do that? But i know obviously that no matter what i do i wont get the v8 sound. is edelbrock expensive? JD1969 06-16-2005, 01:22 AM See shows what I know. Personaly I am not a big fan of Flowmaster, but that IMO. Patrick 06-16-2005, 01:29 AM hmmm...i also had dynomax header mufflers, and i didnt care for them...but on smaller engines, i far prefer the dynomax sound. camarogirl97 06-16-2005, 01:45 AM Gosh you guys i dont know what to do!!! I want my car to be loud.. its way too quiet!! but i dont want it to sound bad... man!!! sees how much i really know... JD1969 06-16-2005, 02:17 AM How about trying a cat back from a Z/28? It would be cheap and flow really well for your 6. It won't be loud though, but it will allow you to put any muffler made for a Z/28 on your car. Patrick 06-16-2005, 07:55 PM and if you find someone who bought aftermarket catback, you may be able to get the stock system cheap camarogirl97 06-21-2005, 12:20 AM Where would i find a catback from a z28? and i dont quite know what your talking about..what would be the differnce... JD1969 06-21-2005, 12:41 AM Check with your local exhaust shop, alot of people will leave their old parts and most shops just through them away, otherwise e-bay. The Z/28 cat-back will flow better because of the bigger diameter pipe. Patrick 06-23-2005, 01:52 PM JD...id the larger exhaust on the Z from GM, or do they use an aftermarket company stock? JD1969 06-23-2005, 04:22 PM I think the Z has a 2.5 inch over-the-axel pipe, the SS and WS6 cars got a three inch OTA pipe. Not 100% sure though nj02z28ls1 08-09-2005, 09:30 PM american thunder is product line of flowmaster. bang for the buck american thunder is the bast deal. if you want to go budget just replace the stock muffler because after the cats the ls-1 cars have a 3 in. pipe to the muffler and that what the kit has. as far as the v-6, have you ever heard a badass v-6? yeah thats what i thought. save your money. aaronsirocz 08-10-2005, 01:15 AM YEAH ITS PRETTY HARD TO GET A 6 TO SOUND GOOD, YOU CAN DEFINATELY MAKE IT LOUND BUT U PROB WOULDNT LIKE IT. JUST SAVE YOUR MONEY ON EXHAUST AND MAKE IT LOOK SWEET THATS WHAT I WOULD DO, CAUSE AT LEAST WHEN PEOPLE NOTICE YOUR CAR AND WANT TO RACE JUST TELL THEM U DONT WANT TO EMBARASS THEM, AND THEN CRUISE OFF. z28pete 08-11-2005, 01:52 AM For all it's worth.e put a pair of 3" Hooker Aero Chambers on a 3.4 Pontiac GP with high compression & hot cam. The car sounds very close to a V8 at idle, but after 3000 RPM is sound more like a good six, something like a 911 Porsche instead of a buzzing rice burner. It is loud when floored and sets off the car alarms in the neighborhood aaronsirocz 08-11-2005, 02:06 AM oh yeah setting off car allarms as ur cruising by is very fun... |
