I'm thinking of turbochrging my Z28 LS1... the kit I'm looking at is around 4700.00. The reason for the turbo is because my car is an automatic. Does anyone have a turbo on their car? If I had the 6sp I'd be more inclined to go with the supercharger.

i have/had a nissan 240sx coupe 5 speed that had a t15 turbo on it the power is amazing but i had pistions cam steel crank and a home made intakemanafold but u need to get your car tuned when you turbo it also look for external waste gate turbos and u want somethink that spools super fast to make power and do not run it with out wastegate compresser surger can bust crack and when u do that it takes all the parts threw your motor not good but u will also need better head gaskets well good luck and remember boost over 35psi can internaly hert your intake

also never run your oil return lines up and use manufactures recomended high presser oil lines dry sump is the best system

It doesn't matter whether you have a auto or manual....what is your reasoning for this???

I agree.. This does not matter.. However there are some really good pro's to superchargers..
Supercharger:
Pro's - Instant boost, don't have to wait for a turbo to spool up. No turbo lag. Awesome sound hahaha. No costly custom made manifolds, or funky turbo in the rear set ups.
Con's - In order to adjust boost, you have to replace a pully. Takes approx. 100hp from the crank to produce boost (from what I've heard!).
Turbo:
Pro's - Adjusting boost is simple, tons of power. Doesn't take power from the crank to produce the boost.
Con's - Turbo lag, costly manifolds or funky set up in the rear, slow spool compared to supercharger...
thats my outlook on it.. supercharger all the way!

SO IF i PUT A TURBO OR SUPERCHARGER on my camaro and it is auto it all good I thougth that it didn't work as well with an auto for these I dunno what made me think that.... Thanks nick * I mean I knew you could and all but I dunno what I was thinking* tahnks nick!~

Superchargers chew threw belts FYI. You can always get hybrid turbos now. Superchargers are more pratcial, use less mods, and have more consistent boost, but as mentioned. It takes a little bit more to change the boost. Turbos sound cooler in my opinion and takes a little bit more skill to custom install. If you have the turbo mounted towards the exhaust manifold, it'll spool better. Match that turbo with a good waste gate and blow off valve, you'll spool just as fast as a supercharger. That 100 hp from the crank is if you have a 9-81 supercharger set up.

Only if you have an incorrectly chosed turbo setup, or use on of those *ahem* shall I be safe to say "Questionable" rear-mounted turbo kits.
We had a Turbo LS1 with a GT42 hanging off of it at the shop that was anything but laggy, and made a nice 590whp/640ft/lbs. (that might be off by +/- 10 whp & ft/lbs.---it's been a while since I had the dyno sheet in front of me) on the stock motor @ 9 psi on pump gas.

When was the last time you've driven a turbo'd car. Technology is amazing these days beacuse the waste gate stays open when there is low pressure. So when you mash down on the throttle it closes so it starts spooling a lot sooner. With a boost controller, you can have spool up as fast, if not faster than a super charger. Turbos take less horsepower to run also. Turbos are the best way to have a power adder. How many cars come stock with a super charger? Pontiac GTP, Ford F150 Lightning, Ford GT, and the Impala SS.
What comes with turbos? Evo VIII, Fox chassis mustangs had an option for a turbo, Desiels have turbo chargers and not super chargers. Drive the Diesel Cummins or the Powerstroke or GM Desiels all have turbos. Turbos are now the power adder of choice these days. You have more room for intercoolers and you can have your CO2 coolers and your nitrous on the intake by the throttle body. You can change a turbo out just as easily as 9 bolts and 6 hoses. If you get a ball bearinged turbo, it'll last you a lot longer than a supercharger. The screw impellers on the roots style blower ware out and allow blow by and leaks oil from the throttle body. (F150 lightning)

Actually, the wastegate stays CLOSED until the turbo spools. Opening it up prematurely will only increase spool-up time, aka, "Lag".
The other aspect if BB (ball-bearing) turbos. The actual reason people have (companies) gone to BB turbochargers is that it lowers resistance. Less resistance-quicker spooling. If you're maximizing the ability of a setup (motor) to spool a large turbo going BB might be beneficial by a couple of hundred RPM, HOWEVER, the tolerances with BB turbos are that much tighter that contamination can cause them to fail eariler then conventional bearing turbos and on top of that, unfortunately, a lot of BB turbo vendors will *NOT* rebuild BB turbos whereas they with conventional bearing turbos.
End result---if you need BB turbos to gain that extra couple of hundred RPMs in spooling time, go for it. Otherwise, boost is just a downshift or .2 seconds longer away.

I kinda figured that out by now guy. You a few months behind. It was just like a "No ****?" type of reply. Relax there.
