So yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna paint my brake calipers red today. My brother did it on his modded probe gt and it looks pretty good, personally I think he should have went with the inferior ford blue, but what do you guys think? Red should be okay? Any suggestions on the easier ways of doing it?

I personally like to take off the caliper and the caliper mounting brackets, spread the calipers, and put news paper under all the brake components. Reinstall everything and then paint them. Prepping them, just degrease them, I use brake cleaner and then prime it with self etching primper and then paint it. Sand it with 1000 grit sand paper and then clear em. Or you could be lazy and just degrease them and then tape off what ever you don't want painted and shoot the paint and clear.

looks really nice on that cobra! I used the spray paint kind from duplicolor on my drums and they turned out pretty nice.

How long does the duplicolor paint take to dry (the brush-on style) before i can start driving it?

Well for duplicolor, I just sprayed the primer on let it set for 10 minutes and then while it was still a little tacky I sprayed the color. You can drive it as soon as the paint is dry to the toutch. It should be less than an hour.
Just don't glop it on and as long as it's light coats it'll be fine in an hour.

I painted my rear drum gloss black today using Dupli-color's brush on paint. i took my time sanding it down so it took almost 5 hours to complete, with a few breaks in between (my buddy came down and smoked with me ;) anyways It is really a simple process just make sure you sand all the rust off that you possibly can. I might accent them with red eventually. Anyways like it's been mentioned before this isnt a quick process I got one drum painted in 5 hours.. The paint drys suprisingly quick. So (weather permitted) I'm going to move on to the next one. pics coming later tonight i have to reduce their size.

Sounds like a plan. A couple days after the paint has dried, if you want to accentuate the letterings in the drum, spray the red paint and let it fill in the lettering and then take a rag or cheese cloth and dip it with paint thinner and take the paint off the raised areas.

Yeah so heres the process. Must I stress How important it is to take your time sanding. I plan on accenting the center "lip(image 3)" of the drums red and each on of the raised "ribs (image 2)"

True Norm>.. We'll call this one drum brakes on a budget ;-) I got the paint for free. My Dads friend works at advanced auto and the box said it was red when it was really black, so he gave it to me... I can't wait.... Two more weeks and its new front suspension and whatever else i can find to spend cold hard cash on the camaro.

Do you think painting the front calipers will be a faster process than those big ass rear drums? And when i go to accent it red do i need to resand it after I use the paint thinner? (probably not) just thought id check tho.

Well as long as they're clean and you're not sanding them 100% lol cuz it would actually take longer with all the misshapes. But if you're spraying them with minimal prep time, yes. And you do not have to re sand after paint thinner.

Sand blasting is another cost effective and quick way to clean rust off.

I also painted the diff cover on the S10 the same color as the calipers.
