I have a 94 Z28 6-speed with a Moroso CAI,air-foil, MSD ignition, SLP cutouts
3:73 gears, and a NX 100 shot. I just bought a pair of Hooker Super Comp. long tube headers. someone told me you have to take off the smog pump and all its tubes for the car to run right. But i was looking under my car and i saw that the smog pump wasnt even plugged in so i was wandering if i have to still take off the smog pump or will the headers work with the smog pump just being unplugged. THANKS.

i thought that the smog pump was attatched to the exhaust manifold, thus it would be in the way of the headers...i know it is on my buddies non-camaro.

This car uses an electric smog pump that pumps air is dirctly into the exhaust manifold. It is attached to the block and plumbed with hoses and pipes into the exhaust manifold. It's purpose is to get cat hot quickly. It only goes on at idle and low speed. It does not affect the performance of the car in any way. However; the car may fail smog inspection, depending on your state.

I have to agree with pete that the smog will not affect performance since it is electric , depending on which headers you purchased will account on whether or not you can hook up your smog pump, if you do decide to remove it you will need to buy block off plates for the egr as well as the feed tube of the smog and have your cpu flashed to override the code so you don't get that pesky little service engine light
