I have a slight noise comming from the rear of the car lately on my 2k SS Camaro 6 speed. It sounds almost like tire noise on the road. But it is comming from the rear end. Anyone else expirience this?

Might Better Check Your Fluid Level. Sick

Well, I have never done that before. And after 50k miles on it could possibly need it! I will have a go at it tomorrow!

All That Need is A 3/8 Drive Ratchet and A Finger. Sick

Sounds easy enough. I am guessing if I touch fluid I am good to go?

A humming noise could be a bad wheel bearing, or a rock stuck in the tire. Check the easy stuff first.

is it speed sensative? dose it change with vehicle speed regardles of throttle input? or is it load sensative? is it worse on accel or deccel? I have seen 10 bolts shelled after 20k and on a 6 spd SS I will garente that the carrier, or side, bearings are bad, despite the fluid level being good. the bearings can't handle the tourque load they are being subjected to, the left side almost always wears out first. on the 2nd gens it was'nt a problem the 350 only made around 170 hoarse. now it's much higher. and yet they all still use the same bearings, good one GM.

It does get louder with speed.. I hear it from about 10 mph - 60 or so mph then its either to hard to hear or not making the noise at all. I have checked the fluid it is good. I am taking it to the shop and dropping it off today and having them take a long good look at it.

I am having what sounds like exactly the same problem in my 2k SS 6speed. I would love to hear what was the result of taking the car in. What was wrong? What did it cost to fix the problem?

My first guess would be a wheel bearing or something caugt in the drum

yea, i just bought me a 1999 Camaro SS and makes the same noise, took it to my good friend Daryll at Auto Worx here in Venice and told me it was the wheel bearings... $644.00 is the total to fix :/
